What is the 'rule' on beer?

Recommended Posts

I was banded 8/14; I have stayed completely away from alochol to this point but would like to be able to have a beer or two (Michelob Ultra) with my brothers at Christmas time. Is this illegal? Does anyone know the 'rule'? I am down 30 pounds; have a 10 cc band with 3 cc fill. Feeling wonderful!

I drink the occasional beer. I can't get down more than two bottles due to feeling full. That's about 1/3 of what I could get down in an evening (not every evening) of drinking beer before the band.

I don't or should say can't drink beer because of the carbonation. If I'm really craving one real bad, I have to pour from glass to glass to get rid of some of the carbonation.. Kinda like when your cooling off something. Wine is no problem or vodka with any sort of juice works great also.

I could drink beer (or any carbonation) until my last fill. Now it is super painful and the bubbles come back up like a mini-PB.

Since everyone is different you might be ok with it.

i'm still at the point where beer doesn't hurt my stomach, but my doc says NO CARBONATION because it will stretch your pouch...not sure though?????

An occasional beer will not hurt. It is all a matter on whether the carbonation will hurt you. You just need to monitor it to see if you get heart burn or acid reflux.

No carbonation! It's a rule. My dr. permits alcohol, just not carbonated drinks.

I went out with my little brother over thanksgiving and he ordered me a "red headed slut". I have red hair, so thought it was a bit odd. Anyway it was yummy and I no longer have any sort of tolerance to alcohol. It also took about 40 minutes to drink.

Stay away from carbonation, it can stretch your pouch.

Stay away from carbonation if you can. I can drink Mike's Hard Lemonade now, but that is as far as I will push it. I will remind you that you will fet drunk quickly now...lol....

Makes you a cheap and fun date! :)

I miss beer too!! I can do ok drinking carbonated drinks so I will have one occassionally. I do notice that it really throws a wrench in my weightloss though! I can down a chickfila Cookies and cream milk shake and loose, but any alcohol stalls the process. I love red wine also (hate white wine), but red wine gives me acid reflux the minute I swallow a sip.

My doctor said no carbonation, too. I'm not into alcohol to begin with, but I've especially been avoiding it so I don't take in a bunch of empty calories. If you exercise more to burn off the calories, then I guess you can indulge sometimes.

As always, go with your doctor's advice to be safe...

I just had my surgery done 1 week ago today and while I'm totally committed to taking my excess weight off first, I was/am really wrestling with the thought that I could never drink another beer... EVER, which is why I searched for a discussion forum such as this. I also realize that I'm going to have to make behavioral changes with not only my eating habits and choices but, also with any beer consumption. I am somewhat of a beer connoisseur and after reading other posts the issue seems to be more that of CO2 content and not the alcohol content per se, and I can tell you there are beers out there with relatively low CO2 content Guinness Extra Stout comes to mind (not the ones with the "gas widget" in it to produce the creamy/foamy head upon opening). A lot of these beers are called Big Beers and have higher alcohol content so watch your intake level/tolerance, not to mention they'll have more calories. I'm not a fan of liquor or wine and all the "Light" beers that I'm familiar with seem to be all the more carbonated:thumbdown: And don't forget why you had this surgery in the first place. Start meeting those goals first and then incorporate the "brew" back slowly over time with committed moderation.

Good to know as I will be visiting Ireland several months after my surgery. nice to know about Guiness. Probably will have switch to a 1/2 pint. Guiness is so filling any ways.

I've heard the alcohol tolerance is gone too! Probably due to the empty stomach we now have & never did before. And the fact that by the time we're back on normal foods & even considering a beer we're probably a lot smaller than the last time we took some to the head! All the qualities to make us quite the light weight. I still would avoid any carbonation though, although I usually never would pass up a cold beer its really not worth another surgery or complications from a slipped band or stretched pouch! Id op for a shot of patron. At least its few calories & gets the job done! Ha

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
