I'll experience my first summer at goal at the end of this year (Southern Hemisphere), so I'm really curious to see how differently I feel in the heat.

On the flip-side, this winter we're currently in down here... I feel the cold like I never did before. I look at other folks who aren't rugged up like the Michelin Man in puffers and beanies and multi-layers and wonder how on earth they can stand it! I've never been so low on insulating blubber!

Ha, yeah, I've never been so cold as I've been since surgery. It think it's getting better, but it's summer so I can't tell. Except that the heat is not bothering me... like at all.... like I barely sweat. I imagine the winter will be cold again for me. Will see soon enough.

Crossing my legs when sitting in a chair. Putting on socks is easy, sitting or standing. Bought a new pair of pants 3 months ago that I can barely wear anymore because now they're too big too. Almost never sweaty. No huffing and puffing when walking or hiking. Bought a kayak and don't feel too big for it. No longer worried that camping chairs will buckle under me. Aches and pains in my hips and legs are nearly gone. All in all, all is good!

Wow can't wait to experience all of the above, congratulations you've done well so happy for you👏👏👏👏😊😊😊

I was able to sit at a student desk! Last year(my surgery was June 7th)I literally had to wedge myself into the desks and push myself out... today I sat in one and had room to lean back. I mean it was actually not uncomfortable. Total 180 from end of school last year. Quite tickled!

This makes me remember my son's teacher conferences. They would always want us to sit in the tiny student chairs. My husband is 6'10" and a big guy and I was almost 400 pounds. Um. Nope! [emoji23]
That's awesome to be able to fit into a student desk!

So pre-surgery I was wearing 3-4XL T- shirts at work. Part of pre-planning this year we were given 2 school T-shirts and I got AND FIT the XL! Total shocker-i knew when I picked XL I might still have some weight to lose but nope! It fit nicely! I'm 8 1/2 weeks out and ounces away from 60lbs and I fit an XL!!! So tickled!

Yeah the desks were my enemy! I felt embarrassed each time I had to push myself out because I just couldn't simply get up-I was wedged in.

This is great. It reminded me of my then 3 yr old nephew wanting to take me for a drive in his little child’s gator. Could easily fit my bottom in the seat. It was pretty freaky - never would have imagined being able to fit in a little child’s seat. Of course I couldn’t get my legs in so I dangled them over the front of the gator’s bonnet. Amusingly, he refused to drive me cause it wasn’t safe.

Buying a pair of pants according to my measurements. Getting the pants home and looking at them and thinking these will never fit. Trying them on. Shocked that they fit.

I would fit into those school desks now. There was one building at school with the worst desks that were attached to the floor. I suffered in those classes!

Being able to fit in medium to small and even extra small sizes 😳😳

I took a helicopter tour! The weight limit is 300 pounds per person and 600 pounds total for a group of 3. I would have been over the limit at my heaviest. The best part is that I didn’t even check the weight limit. I didn’t even think about it until I got there and saw a sign. When I was over 300 pounds, I would have checked that before I drove there.

This. A boutique clothing shop owner called me tiny this weekend. I fit the small. Our brains haven’t caught up to our bodies!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
