Thank you @loveSimcha! 😍😍 How’s your recovery going?

I am doing really well - had a few poop issues (sorry TMI lol) but overall doing really good. Today is your big day! Hope it goes smoothly. You will be on my mind today.

Mine was a week ago today. I feel really good. No pain. The first few days I would get a cramp that lasted 5 - 10 seconds and once passed it would cause another 10 - 15 seconds of nausea but that is long gone. I did dry heave one day so I took a pill for nausea. The first few days my stomach was like - I WANT FOOD!!! either that or it was saying WTF did you do? lol It was hard adapting to drinking so slow and so I wasn't getting in all the fluids. I m doing better now with that.

@Jnfinney how are you feeling? You are only two days out so i suspect you are still with the cramps and such. Did you get gas pains? I never had any. My biggest issue was in the bathroom and running to it lol

@LoveSimcha my abdomen/incisions are pretty sore still. I am also adjusting to drinking so slowly. Yesterday I had the WTF did I do to myself feeling, I’m better today but still pretty sore. I was actually hungry after I woke up from surgery, but now the sight, smell, and thought of food is enough to make me nauseous. I wouldn’t say I’ve had any cramping, but I have been really burpy and passing flatulence.

Funny enough - the thought of some foods make me nauseous but not all. I don't want to look at another cup of Soup or shake! My kids were eating some chicken nuggets and I was like ooooohhhh that looks so good lol I don't even like chicken nuggets - or at least I didn't. I do remember being hungry in the hospital. I don't think I burped that much or even passed flatulence because I had the poop issues - coming out like liquid (TMI).

Glad to hear you are doing well over all

Hello I had mine on March 8. Also had my lapband removed as well. Struggling through the liquid phase.

My surgery date just got moved up from the 5th of April to March 31st, so I JUST squeak into March!
Any tips on how to prepare/practice for getting fluids in post op?

@Rosie_flips I’m not really sure you can prepare yourself for getting all your fluids in after surgery. I’ve honestly spent the past 4 days sleeping on and off and I sip Water and pedialyte when I am awake. If you are wanting to practice, try taking the tiniest sips of your life, no matter how thirsty you are. I caused a bout of nausea when I drank too fast. The first day I was allowed to have 15 ml of water every 15 minutes. The second day I was allowed to have 30 ml of water every 10 minutes.

@JustJazzy I had my surgery Monday and I too am sore as hell. Luckily I only had the sleeve and a liver biopsy, so I can imagine you are much more sore than I am. On day 2, I sat in my hospital room thinking what the hell did I do to myself? And I was almost regretting this. I can say that each day the pain subsides a tiny bit more and it is getting easier. I have been taking liquid Tylenol as frequently as I can and that seems to be helping as well. I’ve also had good luck with ice packs.

It’s hard I will not lie. Someone on here suggested using a small shot glass or medicine cup and setting alarms. My only tip is the Premier Protein clear Protein Drink. That satisfies Fluid and Protein in one drink and both are hard requirements to meet.it only comes in peach and fruit punch as far as I can tell and I am not a huge fan of either but the fruit Punch was not as stromg or sweet as most to me. 🤞

Doing pretty good. My surgery was outpatient so they sent me home last night at 11p. Trying to get these gas bubbles out is no joke. No pain yet except for that, and some soreness on y upper abdomen. (Also had hiatal hernia repair)

I’ll check in again later- so sleepy!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
