Joining late... gastric sleeve surgery was nov 30th... day 15, aka purée
Had a little plateau on week two/three... know
It was due to shifts to full liquid then on to purée

Now restarted the down as I’m no longer in starvation mode, and just started hitting calorie goals.

Decided I should calling puree, the Pate phase... blending up chicken, tuna into well, pate.

Down about 50 since the start of the liquid diet.< br />

You’re doing amazing! Is that 50 since liquid pre or post op? Not that it matters, just curious 😉! Congratulations either way!!

It will / already has!! I can do dishes without excruciating back pain already! I also have slept on my back some... the problem is I have permanent nerve damage. Part of the reason I got Bariatric surgery was so I can have another surgery where they implant into my back a nerve blocker. I had to do this 1st because they imbed it into the fat in my back. They knew I was on the path for Bariatric surgery and wanted my fat on my back to be stable otherwise I would need another surgery to reposition the nerve blocker after I lost weight... so it’s a process and I’m praying if I lose enough the nerve pain will be bearable and I won’t have to have that surgery!!

I’ve also had nerve blocks in my back. I was hoping when I lost weight that it wouldn’t hurt so much but it has gotten worse going down my leg and below my knee. So on Dec. 30 I am having nerve burning on both sides of my back, and that is SUPPOSED TO LAST LONGER than the steroid shots. I had been getting them for years. I hope and pray it works.
And I hope yours works for you as well.it’s called Ablation if you want to ask your dr about it.

I’m so sorry it’s so bad! I will pray for you that this takes and works quickly! I’m sorry you have to get another procedure so soon!! Hang in there! Thanks for the tip! They don’t think that will work for me. I can’t remember what’s it’s called off the top of my head, but it’s an actual implant to stop the nerve message from making it to the brain. Mine is so bad I often can’t lift my foot off the floor. It is going to pass I keep telling myself.

That is so good that the surgery is helping with your back!! It sounds like you are at the start of a new journey of pain free life. It will be better everyday.

I am sorry you are in pain. That’s awful. And having no another surgery. Let’s hope this does the trick and a speedy recovery.

Hi all,

I’m now 5.5 weeks RNY post op. I have only lost 17 lbs post-op ☹️ Has anyone else experienced this?

I was/am following all diet orders and restrictions I have recently moved to all foods stage.

I am getting all of my Protein and Fluid requirements (and more) in

I am exercising every day

I was told from my surgeon that the first three to four months are the “honeymoon” phase, where the weight comes off with little effort. Week 1 was good, the rest have been averaging 2.5 pounds. Now it seems to be slowing down - last week’s loss was 1.8. What happens when the honeymoon is over?!?

I’ve read the other posts about this issue, but I’m doing all of the recommended actions already.

I don’t even think this is a stall, loss has been slow period.

Is it because I’m older - 50’s?

My nurse and dietitian just said that some people don’t lose as much as others

Sorry to whine. I know there are no guarantees. After seeing the loss for nearly everyone else, I was just hoping for more.

thank you!

HI Sweet Jane,

If you look at the previous posts, it is pretty normal. You don't have stats on your page so hard to see what you are starting at.

I'm slow although I have been following, do 12,000 - 17,000 steps a day, consume 500 - 600 calories. I lost 9 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Then I stalled. Now its coming off again. I was 4 weeks on Thursday and I hit 12 pounds. Today I am at 13. I see a difference and feel a difference e so I am ok with my slower results.

There are others that are double and triple my results. I had thoughts and expectations that I would be down 60 pounds in 3 months! Not great to put expectations on things because we feel we failed or are doing something wrong. Our bodies will adjust and do what it needs. I now know it will probably take me 6 - 9 months to get to where I would like to be. And maybe that will even change as I get closer. I don't know why, but we will all get there, as long as we are putting our effort in! That is al we can do:)

I am 7 weeks RNY ...My weightloss has definitely slowed down the last 3 weeks. 1 lb. each week for the last 3 weeks. I have not been so fortunate to get all my requirements in. I try, but it’s just too much for me, but I still aim at the goals. Just fall short..... I also think these stalls are common from what I’m hearing. Depending on how much exercising you’re doing, maybe ease up a bit. But I don’t know what your weight was to start. I know mine was less than a lot of others who had a lot more to lose, so I’m thinking the closer to the goal the harder it is to come off. I was 209, I’m 68, and I lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle, some because of knee and back problems. I know another thing that hinders weightloss is depression and pain meds and blood pressure meds too. There’s a lot that can affect it besides food. Talk to your family dr about your meds, if this may be your case. Don’t go off anything without checking with them first.
But I’m on the losing side still, so I’m counting my blessings! Keep up your good food goals! You’re doing much better than me, there. It will work out.

I just looked at your stats - you were 20 lbs. less than me, so I imagine you will not lose an amazing amount so quickly. You don’t have as much body fat. But again, medicines can play a big role, so talk to your family dr if you’re on any of those. You’re doing all the right things, so keep up the great work!

Just thought of something to add.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
