I’m on soft foods as well. I just think a piece of toast would fix my nausea. But I haven’t dared tried just in case!! I get light headed too when I try and exercise (walk for exercise, nothing really strenuous yet.) I figure you’re right, more food will help us! Hanging in!

Is it certain foods making you nauseous? Have you thrown up?

Yes, I should have looked at my notebook a little closer! Lol I called a friend that had the operation over a year ago because I was afraid to throw up because of hurting my insides. She helped me thru it, but I was miserable going to bed last night. MUCH BETTER THIS MORNING!!

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. Its hard because it is trial and error. We are told to try what we feel, very small and chew slowly, but we have no idea what our new stomach's will tolerate and when. At some point, we will all go through what you went through. So not looking forward to that!

It’s not food. I’ve basically felt nauseous since surgery. Just how I live now. I did throw up once. I tried a spice mix on some ground turkey and up it came. Other then that I’ve kept everything down. Even all the other turkey I’ve eaten. So I know it was the spice. I’ve tried changing the temperature of food and Water, eating more and less... I don’t see my doctor again until Jan 8. Hopefully my body has adjusted by then. Jello does seem to settle it for a few minutes, but I try not to eat that as it has no nutrition. Any ideas?

Absolutely! I'm not the most patient of people-my wife literally tells me every day that I have had major surgery so I need to stop expecting to be back to my usual self in 5 minutes. I've played rugby for 12 years so I'm used to being able to run around and tackle things and I'm just not there yet and can't imagine I will be for a while. I've got the Wii out though and am having a bit of a play on that and hoping to do a few more walks next week. Glad it isn't just me with the light headedness!

its funny that we do that to ourselves! We did just have major surgery! Its been just about 4 weeks and our expectations for weight loss, exercise, etc is unbelievable. And yet, we keep doing it. Our bodies can only handle so much. No wonder we get stalls! Our poor bodies are saying "stop and let me recoup"! We want everything NOW. If we can just stop our minds and let it happen....because it will.

Now...to practice what I preach! I am just the worst! Maybe it will be my new years resolution!

Tha'ts awful. That cant be your life moving forward.

Have you tried gas-x? or gravol? or lemon ginger tea? You dont seem to be consuming very much so maybe it is the emptiness in your stomach? broth, Protein Shakes, tea and Jello to keep you hydrated and getting calories. Its not the best nutrient's but you may need more than you are getting.

Oh, one other thing I noticed....the Iron supplement. I no longer take at night. It wasn't making me feel too great. Maybe stop taking it for a few days and see if it is the iron. And of course, it can be your med's with your new stomach?

I haven’t tried the tea or gas-x I’m a chicken. If it’s not in my binder I don’t eat it 😂. Those are good ideas. I do get in at least 60 grams Protein and my 64 oz Water. And I try and get in some veggies every day. But that’s my max. I’m out of space with the meds and things. I’m on depakote (migraine drug), the one to stop gall stones and a prescription stool softener ( hasn’t run out from post-op.. I’m supposed to finish it.) I take all three of those 2x a day and then the Vitamins. Plus I have a pill in the morning 30 min before I can eat. And finally I’m on Percocet 3x a day (was on before surgery to manage back pain. I’ve had multiple back surgeries and I have nerve damage). It seems my first couple hours is just getting meds in which I’m sure isn’t helping the nausea... ahh surgery! I will try some tea, I’ve got a ton of herbal tea I love it and it is in the binder as approved for this stage on my diet. I’ve just been afraid of spice ever since I threw up.😂😂😂 this too shall pass 😬

I just wrote a book as a response 😂 and thought the same thing. Meds! Ughh. I don’t take iron seperate. It’s part of the chewable vitamins my surgeon recommended. I take one pill 4x a day spread out so I absorb more. Bariatricfusion Vitamins. Who knows what my body doesn’t like in them... thanks for the feedback! This has helped me walk through everything instead of just surviving. I usually just tuck up inside myself and survive. I get to change that as I change the outside! Thanks for your help!!

Yes, all the meds taken on the most part an empty stomach I am sure is wreaking havoc. Can you call your doctor previous to your January appointment? It seems along time to suffer.

Will this surgery help with some of the other issues ie. back?

It’s very possible it’s the Percocet that is too much for your small pouch. I know it can have that affect in a normal person, so it may be worth a phone call to your doctor and seeing what he says about it. I definitely think you should call. He needs to know.

It will / already has!! I can do dishes without excruciating back pain already! I also have slept on my back some... the problem is I have permanent nerve damage. Part of the reason I got Bariatric surgery was so I can have another surgery where they implant into my back a nerve blocker. I had to do this 1st because they imbed it into the fat in my back. They knew I was on the path for Bariatric surgery and wanted my fat on my back to be stable otherwise I would need another surgery to reposition the nerve blocker after I lost weight... so it’s a process and I’m praying if I lose enough the nerve pain will be bearable and I won’t have to have that surgery!!

Joining late... gastric sleeve surgery was nov 30th... day 15, aka purée
Had a little plateau on week two/three... know
It was due to shifts to full liquid then on to purée

Now restarted the down as I’m no longer in starvation mode, and just started hitting calorie goals.

Decided I should calling puree, the Pate phase... blending up chicken, tuna into well, pate.

Down about 50 since the start of the liquid diet.< br />

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
