Anyone here who had surgery in their 60's?

Hi! I'm new to this forum. I'm 67 and am waiting for insurance authorization before I can schedule a surgery date. Are there any other people here who had their surgery while in their 60's? I have struggled with my weight for 44 years, and have joined WW countless times, tried OA, 6Atkins, South Beach and Noom. Like most of you I'd lose a little and gain back more. At my highest I was 291, and that was when my doctor recommended gastric sleeve surgery. I wish I had considered it earlier, but I thought it was the cheater's way to go. I know think it's my last hope.

If there are older folks, how did you do with surgery, do you have any regrets, and are things that you wish you had known before surgery? Thanks for any advice or encouragement you can give me.

I had my gastric sleeve at 63. Best decision I could have made. Paid for it out of pocket without insurance help. Didn’t want to jump through hoops for another year to have insurance pay for it. Highly recommend it to change your life. I’m 11 months out and need to lose 11 lbs to reach my goal.

Glad to know Im not the only sixty something here. My surgery is scheduled for 5/20 so I cant respond to your questions but my reason was to get healthy. Getting older puts things in perspective as far as health for me. Good luck with your journey.

Agree! Once I found out that serious weight loss was the only thing that might help me ( very very fatty liver nafld/nash) I knew I had to try. I hadn't considered wls I thought I was too old 65/66 but my docs told me otherwise!
Wls was my best chance for better health befor my liver got worse.
All has gone well
Weight loss slow compared to some folk but my health has been improving !
AND no complications to date ( I'm 3mth post op)
Best wishes for your surgery

Thank you for starting this topic. I'm 56 and my surgery scheduled for May 13th. I feel like I've found my people!!

After yo yo ing my entire life, I'm ready to finally take care of myself.

I have a technical question. How do I enter my surgery date/type and all the stats that are showing below our names? I've tried editing my profile but it doesn't let me enter any info in the stat segment.

Or do you know where I go on this site to read how to?

Go to my surgery in the dropdown on your name, then progress . Good luck with your surgery.
