Hi Everyone,

I'm having my surgery on 8/19. I am on a two week liquid diet and today is the first day. It's been tough.

It is hard...some days I want to give in, but have worked hard to get here and don't want to chance the doctor doing my surgery. I just try to keep busy and go to bed early. Good luck and you can do this.

2 days post op and I'm very exhausted. Is this normal?

Yes, I slept for 2 days, then day 3 was a bit better and then every day got better after that. Just try and make sure you drink your Water and walk a little every time you get up (to use the bathroom or whatever). Take care!

Met with my surgeon today. Surgery date 8/28/20. Start Optifast (LMR ~ liquid meal replacement) on the 14th. Explained the RNY surgery will teach you to eat healthy and avoid fat and carb that will result in dumping syndrome, as well as what the procedure consist of, walking after surgery, etc. He has done over 1,000 surgeries of this type. He did a thorough check. Nurse came in explained Hipiclens(4% chlorhexiden) skin cleanser that helps reduce the concentrate of bacteria on skin before surgery and reduce risk of infection (over the counter purchase). NPO after midnight on the 27th. Etc. etc. etc. Yes, very excited and ready to venture into the healthy journey up ahead.

Thank you! Today was a better day and keeping busy as you suggested helped big time.

Oh god. The pre-op diet has gone awfully, maybe one good day? Out of 14? Oh dear. I'm flying to Estonia (from London) for my surgery in a few days and I am a bit worried about having a big liver.

I'm new here. My bypass is scheduled for Aug 13. I'm in the metro Atlanta area and a mom of 3.i have a hard time keeping up with them. I'm on liquid diet now and very hungry. My ultimate goal is to ride a roller coaster. Or all the roller coasters. Or go to a Water park and not be embarrassed. I have a dress from my 24th birthday. If I ever get back to it, I will cry.

Anyone else nearby or having the same surgery or day? Wouldn't it be crazy to find someone at the same hospital at the same time? 😜

Right now i am scheduled for august 28. August 13 is my preop class for post op nutrition. The 14 is my preop clearance with a walk in clinic because my pcp dipped back to another state to be near family during quarantine. The 24 is the preop with my surgeon. My egd is giving me some trouble (it said mild chronic gastritis inactive and there was still food in belly even though i didnt eat within the 6 hours) so i was sent for a gastric emptying study which was normal but i was told the surgeon requests pics from the study and also wanted a second preauth for the sleeve even though i have a preauth for bypass already. I was also called by pcp office staff and they told me the state was going to do a second round of covid shutdowns just isnt announced yet. I think, though its good for doctors to know things before surgery, its entirely been a pain in the ass with all the testing and i read in the patient packet they (the bariatric place) are wanting a chest xray and ekg (going to a walk in clinic mind you lol) as well as a physical for the preop clearance the 14. I think this would be far less complex if the bariatric place had all of this inhouse. I doubt it will all get done before surgery. Also another covid test on the 26th (had to have one for the egd).

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
