Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?

Well, my surgeon’s office called this morning to confirm I’m still planning to come on Friday. And by 4:45 they were calling to tel me they have to postpone. I’m not surprised but I’m terribly disappointed. TWO DAYS! I only needed another two days before my surgery date. And there haven’t even been any cases confirmed in the county where the hospital is located. Arghhhhhhh!!!!

Yep, that's exactly how mine went. Completley heart broken. Now, it's a week to week game. With no quick answers as all of my final required appointments are cancelled. When they do start rescheduling the other appointments will be impossible to get making me wait longer fornsure. So frustrated.

That’s awful. I’m really sorry for all of you who’ve had your surgeries postponed. But don’t give up. It’s better to wait a bit longer than the possible worse case scenario.

In Kansas City... My EGD as part of my pre op testing was scheduled for April 8th and THAT was canceled. And this is at a Bariatric center. Message said "No need to call us back. We'll call you when we can reschedule." I was to receive my date after the EGD results gave the all clear. Oof. Sorry for all of us. Being sequestered would have been a great time to manage the early post op diet struggles.

I'm in NY and my hospital has cancelled all elective surgery until 04/15. My surgery is scheduled for 04/16 but unless a major miracle happens I doubt my surgery will happen. Not sure I'd want to anyway at this point. I'll have to wait a few months and hopefully all will be good then. Good luck to you all.

I know it's tough to be cancelled when you were so close you could almost taste it, but trust me, you don't want to be anywhere near a hospital right now. You would risk being exposed, and many of the staff are distracted with all that's going on around them. Many people have had to call in since their kid's schools are closed and they have no child care so there is a staff shortage and the ones that are still there are frazzled picking up the slack. They are worried about the same thing everyone else is ("where can I get toilet paper? Am I gonna take this virus home to my family?"etc), and feel more at risk since they are on the front line. It's just gonna get worse as the case loads go up and shortages of medical supplies occur.

I work in a small rural hospital and until yesterday have had no cases in our area, and this was already occurring even before this first case...

So please hang in there, this will eventually be over and we can get on with our normal(?) lives!

I'm so sad for everyone being postponed. It is so frustrating to be told to "wait" when you've been working towards something so hard for so long. But just like the others have said, it isn't a "no" it's just a "not now." I plan to keep on keeping on, biding my time until it is my time. My mantra right now is "I know I am loved by my Heavenly Father and that He has everything in His hands." (Not preaching here, just my own perspective!)

We will all get there and then we will look back on this and hopefully be able to laugh (or at least smile). Stay strong, friends! We've got this!

In our hospital staff is preparing for the "big fall out". Security is at every entrance, you have to show your card that identifies you as a staff member.

I wouldn't want to be a surgical patient in these days if I can help it in any way. There can always be complications that puts you temporarily on IMC or ICU - and maybe there is limited capacity then.

I'm having surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital. But will definitely be postponing. Like others have said - a hospital is not where you want to be right now.

I'm scheduled to have my nutrition evaluation next week at the hospital where the bariatric group is based. I checked the hospital's web site to see what restrictions they had in place for coronavirus, and it said that they would be postponing any non-critical appointments and encouraging people to schedule telehealth visits if possible. I called the bariatric group to ask if I could change my appointment to a telehealth visit, and they initially said no and insisted I had to come in for it, but they called back about an hour later and said they could change it to a phone call.

My next hurdle is a weigh-in at my PCP for my 3-month weight loss effort. I hate going to the doctor's office as it is (always full of sick people!), but I'm REALLY wary of going now -- although I live in a rural area where there are currently no confirmed coronavirus cases. One would hope that the insurance companies would make some concessions for surgery approval given the world's circumstances, but insurance companies are notorious for denying coverage for any reason or no reason.

@BigSue Yes, my insurance postponed my surgery from Jan 14 to March 3rd so I understand that issue. Just stay on your course and you will have your surgery eventually. Hope it all works out well for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
