Sooo girl talk I have always had heavy periods like super flow with the mess and junk stuff and I wanted to know from your personal experience how has your period changed since the surgery? With the extra weight gone have you had less of a period or did it go back to normal if you had a irregular? I’m sorry if this question is like super abnormal but I figured since we have had the surgery it’s a good one to ask if not my apologies.

Hi Isabelmonster,

I just had my surgery on Monday(also Dr. Gritsus!!) I am wondering the same question as you. I have PCOS and my gyno recommended the surgery to help with the PCOS and hopefully the heavy and painful menstrual cycles that I have. Just waiting now to find out if it will. ?

My periods are shorter than they were. They seem less messy, too, but I switched to a diva cup around then, so that could be why.

Omg he’s amazing and very attentive!! But I have the depo and it’s like with the massive weight loss and the pcos (aren’t we ever so lucky) I can bleed for months with no end so after this surgery I think the shot was effected and I ended up back to over bleeding so hopefully on my fifth shot I will be okay and it stops overall because the pain from the pcos is literally nonexistent anymore along with the cramps ? hopefully this bleed will subside.

Mine seemed to be at more regular intervals and .ore spaced out (full 28 days instead of 24), but remained heavy. I had gotten a referral to an obgyn before surgery to seek treatment for the heavy periods. Had 2 docs, multiple exams, ultrasound, pap, and biopsies done. Everything came back fairly normal with small normal cysts. Doc agreed to do a uterine ablation. Scheduled it as an in office procedure. Went in and found a huge fibroid that wasn't on the ultrasound report. Because of that he had to reschedule me for surgery at a surgery center. Turns out I had the huge fibroid that filled most of my uterus plus a smaller one behind it. They removed both, fried my uterus, and life has been great since! Ok, it has been just under a month.... but I missed my last period and doc thinks I might not have any more. I will know for sure by March. If you are no longer wanting children, uterine ablation may be an option. Or other forms of birth control if you are still childbearing years. But for me, without the uterine ablation, I may never have known I had two huge fibroids which is probably why my periods were so awful for many years. I had ultrasounds before this last one.... none ever showed fibroids.

Periods went wonky after surgery. They were extremely irregular and I was having them every 2 weeks post op. I seem to be regulating now 3 months post op and they are only lasting 3 to 4 days instead of 5 to 7 before.

Mine skipped the month of November, which is when I had my surgery and then went right back to normal in December.

I had a normal one a week after surgery but a 2 weeks later I thought I would need a transfusion. It was so much, really heavy for 5 straight days. The second month was better but still heavier. Now it’s ever 3.5-4 weeks a little heavier than pre surgery but manageable. Your hormones are crazy after surgery and it takes awhile to stabilize things.
