A Tale of Two Arm Lifts (rs & ms.sss)

Recommended Posts

Found out last month that both @rs and I had Arm Lifts scheduled for the same week, just two days apart. @rs got the deed done yesterday, and I'm heading in for it tomorrow morning. We thought it would be fun/interesting/just-something-to-do to start a thread where we both could post to document our progress for a one-stop view of two different experiences of the same procedure.

So here we go!

K, just got a chance to take some before pics of my arms (see below).

And here are some background details:

  • 5'2" female, 14 months post op, weight stable +/- 5 lbs for about 7 months.
  • Today's weight 115.7 lbs, 21.2 BMI, 13.7% body fat
  • Procedures, as listed on procedure form: BRACHIOPLASTY (aka Arm Lift) + BILATERAL BREAST REDUCTION REVISION (aka Breast Lift).
  • I am getting the Breast Reduction Revision mostly for the fact that it addresses my excess side boob skin. The actual boob lift aspect of it is just an added bonus.
  • In June 2019, when I booked the procedures, the cost of these two is/was $10,000 CAD (plus 13% taxes), and it includes all costs associated with the procedures, including 2 overnights in a private room.

My stats:

5 ft 6.5 in. Sleeved Aug 2018. In maintenance about 4 months, at ~145 lbs.

Had an extended arm lift (brachioplasty) yesterday 12/16. Incision is from elbow through the arm pit area and down to about the bottom of my bra line which should also help with the side boob excess skin. Cost is $9600. Includes everything - surgeon, anaesthesiologist, facility, etc etc

I'm wearing a compression garment that's sorta like a really tight crop top with long sleeves. I also have two drains which I have to empty 1-2 times a day and log the amount. The doctor will remove the drains at my one week post op appointment. Between the tight garment, the drains, and general incision pain, I'm pretty uncomfortable. I'm taking the pain meds as often as prescribed which is helping though.

The Dr said he removed a lot of skin (nurse said almost 1 lb!) and that I'm going to be very happy with the outcome. I really like him. You can tell he really likes his job. He gets excited talking about it. And he's confident in what he knows because he's been doing it a long time.

Ok, I'm going to lie back down now. Will check in again later today and post some pics.

Excited to follow this thread & see your progress.

I agree, your arms look great already @ms.sss. Wish mine looked this good.

I’ve been anti surgery for me because I scar badly (keloid) and felt the loose skin was better than any hideous scars I might end up with. So I’m interested to read about your experiences.

Love you have a Dr who gets excited about removing loose skin @rs.

Good luck with your surgery & recovery.

All packed: button front top, joggers, zippered hoodie, underwear, sports bra, socks, crocs, toiletries, lip balm, gum, biotene throat spray, laptop, chargers, headphones, electrical power bar, hugging pillow, Protein Powder, beef Jerky.

Tomorrow’s clothes laid out to wear.

Alarm set for 5:30 am.

Surprisingly calm.

Will try to check back in here whenever I get the chance :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
