I am just getting used to using this forum site. I love it. I hope to post pictures of every step, including what my home in Mexico looks like, the hospital, staff etc. I think it would be interesting for people to see. I am excited, nervous, but feeling very fortunate. This is Round 3 for me, with the modification of my RNY. I am feeling good that I am 87 pounds below my pre 2000 surgery. I have kept a lot of the weight off. With this site and all the great tools out there, I feel really hopeful that I will succeed in getting off the rest of the fat. Good luck to everyone here, and I hope we all have wifi on our phones in the hospital. It would be great to see pictures!

I'm getting extremely impatient as I get closer to the date! I just want to do this thing already. liquid diet starts this Monday so I've just been getting everything I need for that.

I'm getting to anxious. Tomorrow is my surgical clearance appt with the NP at my surgeon's office. After that I just have to go to the seminar a week before, and get blood work, and start my pre-op diet on the 29th! It seems like forever but it's going to go super fast I have a feeling. I'm anxious.

Thats awesome! We're getting there :) I think once we hit the preop diet the process will feel faster and more real.

I begin my preop on the 20th. My biggest challenge is coffee. Picture this: On my kitchen counter I have an nespresso espresso machine, a Keurig, a grind and brew coffee maker. In my pantry I have a coffee press and a large coffee maker for when I have guests. I live in a 924 sq foot apartment. In Mexico, I have all the same coffee making things. I just ordered a portable espresso maker for travel.

I am a 3 shots of espresso a day person. I always drink the espresso with milk in the form of a latte or Cappuccino.

Three Decaf coffees throughout the day.

I am now down to one shot of caffeinated espresso per day. 4 coffee drinks with cashew milk made with decaf espresso.

Giving up that final, last shot of espresso is going to be the hardest thing ever. I thought I better go down to 1/2 decaf espresso shot during the first week of my pre-surgical. Four days before.... I will give it up completely and deal with the headaches.... ugh.

My surgical clearance is done! I have all of the prescriptions I'm going to need after surgery and I'm just waiting to hear from the hospital about scheduling my seminar and blood work. And to boot I lost 1.5 lbs! I'm so ready!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
