Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital

  • Popular Post
Post op/op details.
Still in hospital. Leak test scheduled for the AM. Gas pain and pressure is no joke! The feeling of needing to burp but not being able
To is annoying. Have walked some and peed some. More details re: intake and actual day of to come. Thanks everyone for your support! I’ll post every retrying on this thread for myself and others. Nothing has been a major surprise thus far due to the generosity of those willing to share on these forums. Dry lips, dry mouth, swollen throat. It’s all real but easier to handle bc I’ve been informed by y’all!

  • @TX4everLinds it does get sooooo much better. I was sleeved about 7 days ago, no more gas or incision pains, I feel like a new woman. Best decision ever!! Remember to walk, walk, walk it is KEY to

  • I am in less pain today. The walking has helped and I was finally able To burp! 4 big burps already. Yes I have spirometer and it is difficult but it does help for sure. I just passed my leak test! S

  • Did they give you an incentive spirometer? If they did, **USE IT EVERY HOUR** If they didn't, get them to give you one, it helps get the gas out much faster than walking alone!

I was sleeved 8/20. I’m at exactly 3 weeks. I hope you make it home soon. I was disappointed that my go at it wasn’t as smooth and pain free as others make it sound. But somewhere around 2.5 weeks I started feeling great. Good luck to you.

I was released from the hospital on 9/6. I just don’t know how to change the title!

Hope you’re doing well!

Glad to see you’re out of the hospital. My dr. gave me antacid medication that I have to take for a month. I forgot about it yesterday and found out why he gave it to me. Ouch. Anyway, once I took it everything was fine. Might be something to ask your dr. about to help you with the heartburn.
Day 5 and I’m feeling a lot better. I am getting more hydration and am relieved to hear that the heartburn is normal. It is also subsiding a bit. I am really focusing today on water and protein and walking. Info and encouragement from these forums has helped me with a lot of the stuff I’ve been struggling with. I am so grateful. Just got back from a walk. Gonna rest now!
Another thing I’ve found that has been really helpful is using the spirometer as they directed. It got the gas moving and my lungs back up to normal.
I must have,had the Miracle,Magic Surgical Cure. No Gas pressure, no gas pain, no leak test,unless they did one before n9n.h
@frustr8 wouldn’t you want a leak test?
Feeling much better physically today then a mental/emotional bump in the road. Argued with my husband and it was a strange sensation to not eat my feelings. Instead I took a few laps around my kitchen island and drank some water sips. Crying hurts the big incision so I had to suck that up too. I am eager to get to a point where I can jog these feelings away. A title discouraged but I’ve survived worse!
Bypass don’t have leak test as far as I know. I didn’t have one either

I forgot she had bypass! Good call!
Y’all every day is getting easier and easier. I have learned a lot about swelling right after surgery. It makes it so much harder to take anything in. Swelling of the stomach and the throat as well. This has encouraged me to have patience. Today I doubled my fluids from yesterday and also doubled my protein. I am getting the hang of this!!! The heartburn still bothers me on occasion but is also subsiding significantly. I keep water in my hand almost all the time and this helps me remember to sip. Tomorrow is my last day with Rx pain medication. I have taken it and have needed it for incision pain. I have liquid acetaminophen standing by in case I need it down the road. This concludes day six post op for me!
@TX4everLinds
I’ve been trying to follow your updates and hoping my recovery is similar to yours! I had the sleeve on 9/10. I was released from the hospital on 9/11. I’m struggling with fluid. Have a lot of stomach pain- i think a combination of incisions, swelling and probably gas. My throat doesn’t bother me as much as my stomach. I’m having problems just finding a comfortable position to sit or lay in. I’ve been putting protein on the back burner while I focus mostly on trying to get water down. Right now the protein makes me feel a little sick. I keep trying with the water because I don’t want to end up back in the hospital for dehydration. Are you able to get your full 64 oz in yet? Have you had any issues with nausea or vomiting? Sorry to bombard you with questions!! Very glad you are finally feeling better!!
@mandy1013 the first couple days Home from the hospital were the hardest. No way am I getting anywhere near 64oz. But I am peeing multiple times a day, more so now that I’m able to keep more down. Day 2 I only had couple sips and my barium drink. Day 3 and 4 hardly anything more than the water for medicine. Day 5 I got serious about sipping and drank 38oz and was really excited. Day 6 (yesterday) was just under 50 and that included protein shakes as fluid. My goal yesterday was to add 8oz more than the day before. My stomach and throat were so swollen and tender there’s no way I could get more than a few sips early on. I gagged once right after taking medicine and threw up water but it was only a little and went away. It wasn’t like an event that kept on. I’ve had some serious pain and just have to pause and breathe. I found a sipping rhythm that works for me. Work on that and it will help you stay hydrated. I’ll keep posting updates!!
@TX4everLinds thank you!
