Meeeee! I have never been a normal weight since childhood, so the surgery will be giving me a brand new experience! I can't even imagine what it must be like to NOT be the fattest person in the room

I would not say I was morbidly obese in childhood but definitely was overweight becoming obese as a teenager and progressing to morbidly obese as an adult. I was at a normal weight for a few mon

Looking back, it is really sad. Being in healthcare now, I don’t think I would approach the subject the same way with an 8 year old. I agree, “go play outside” or “what activities do you like?” would be much more fitting. I think the biggest thing I learned is some people (doctors more specially) don’t know how to bring up the topic without being judgmental. I had a primary care dr ( I must have been 18) walk in to the exam room, not say hello, and tell me I need to have “the surgery”. He went on and on for about 15 minutes about how I NEED to have it done. It honestly turned me away from surgery for a long time.

Your rant, is how I feel now, at 28. I wouldn’t ever tell my son he is fat and needs to diet. In all honesty, I try not to make any comments about my body in front of him.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent there.
No harm, no foul you have a friend at Chase Manhatten-ME! The most wonderful ?gift anyone can give a child, a future
adult is to love them unconditionally as they are. And what a wonderful. gift,to you it will be if someday your son can and will say." I know I always was Loved" Aw Shoot I'm crying too, I did have a son once tell me that, and then he suddenly died at 31, my arms are now empty but that still burns warmly in my heart of hearts , with all my,other failings I was blessed to be my Kevin's Mom.

Yes - I started piling on the pounds at 5 years old. I recall being 180-190lbs at 13 years old - US size 14. I was put on diets constantly and forced to be active, but I kept on getting bigger and bigger. My parents would shout at me in frustration as they didn't understand why my weight kept creeping up.

There were snacks all over the house - my parents were and for the most part have always been of average weight, or at most 15lbs overweight. I don't think they thought for a second they'd end up with a morbidly obese daughter. Especially, my dad, he was and still is very athletic. He was a Judo Instructor, he swims, cycles go to spinning class, runs 5k and 10k marathons - he's also done a triathlon.

I am an only child, and I think the degree of loneliness I felt growing up as an only child drove me to overeat and overindulge in video games - 16-hour gameplay. Waking up at the crack of dawn and not resting until 11 pm.

I had some good times, but I honestly think I was depressed between the age of 10-15 years old most definitely.
