@saygrace wow!!!! That’s so exciting!! That was fast. Glad your mom is willing to share the day with you lol 😂. My last visit is the 19th so I’m hoping the beginning of August. And yes still being able to eat some food is really good. I hope I can do that too

well i started my appointments in february and submitted to insurance at my last appointment in june so it’s been fast insurance wise but a process nonetheless! hahaha i’m glad she’s willing to as well, i didn’t want to have to wait. i think being able to eat is more realistic so i’m glad that’s what they have us do

I am 29 and I have my last appointment with dietician and my surgeon on Tuesday!! Eek! I am super excited! I started this process 8!! years ago when I just turned 21 years old but after my consult I just wasn't as ready as I thought I was. Now 8 years later I have moved, grown and I am in the right mind set and sooo ready!! Our target date for surgery in last week of August and I couldn't be more excited! I can't wait to follow and support you on your journey!

Yay!! So exciting. We all seem to be pretty much at the same stage. What are some of y’all fears right now? Mine is the pre op diet 😐😢 I did a juice diet a few years ago and I was so sick after two days. Like I felt like throwing up all the time. I hope this doesn’t happen this time.

Hi! I'll be able to eat food on my pre-op diet, but I have a friend who recently had to do an all liquid pre-op diet and she said that it was pretty terrible, but that it got much better after day 3 or 4.

Hey everyone I’m pretty new to the cite and have tons of questions. I’m 24 (kinda young I know) lol I’m coming up on my last appointment with the dietitian. I’m getting nervous. Anybody going through the process now or went through it recently? I’d love to hear from people close to my age. Any advice, stories, information I’m here for it all 😊

Hey girl! I'm not as young as you, but I too am coming up on finishing my appointments (last one is 8/10 and endoscopy is next Friday). I an VERY nervous about surgery but I am more excited so I try to focus on that; my anxiety is through the roof with this but I am glad I have decided to go through it. My anticipated surgery date is sometime in late August or September sometime. :)

Hopefully that’s the case for me 😩😢 if not earlier. But I’m going to keep a positive attitude about it. Thanks for sharing

Hey! Mine is the 19th I’m soooo excited. Of course nervous too lol. I’m just ready to start seeing results and start living my best life haha 😂 but yea I’m anticipating sometime in August and at the latest September 🙄 I just think the sooner the better for me. I see people talking about small goals they have set, have you done this? I haven’t yet only long term.

Oh that’s awesome it’s so soon! I’d like to have it done sooner rather than later too; I’ve been going back and forth with it internally for forever so I’m VERY eager lol! I do have small goals set based on a friend of mine who had the (vsg) surgery done in December 2017. Some of the goals are not drinking while eating, not drinking30 minutes after, getting at least 30 minutes of cardio in a day (we walk at lunch) and getting in all the Water I can. A new goal I’ve set for myself is to just have a Protein Shake for breakfast; I am still hungry after but I know I need to get acquainted with liquids lol! The last goal before surgery is like to accomplish is not drinking 30 minutes before the meal; this one is super hard for me for some reason. I drink upwards of 150oz of straight up water a day so reducing the time by an hour an and half sometimes 3x+ a day is a challenge but I’m in it! Have you set any small goals?

Hi to all of you. Lora, you asked when my surgery date would be? Well, 2 days ago the answer would have just been "soon" well yesterday morning at maybe 9 or 930 I got a call from,OSU, THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY as they call themselves. I meet with Dr Needleman, my Bariatric Surgeon and the chief of Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Weight Management. Yeppers when Frustr8 does something she goes for the Gold, only proper since I am having the Gold Metal surgery, an RnY bypass. So I meet with him at 11:15am and then before I leave his office on Kenny Road I should have a surgery date. Certainly before the b end of the month. I shall be a July Sparkler and I can hardly wait, hope I don't have to do a full liquid diet for 14 days, but if he is willing to work with me and I wouldn't have gotten this far if he wouldn't be, I shall follow each and everything he instructs me to do. This is my chance, I will star in this production but I need a producer/director and that would be him. Oh I can do and will do with every breath that is within me and I WILL SHINE BABY SHINE!😷👍😛🏣

I had my consultation October of last year and officially started my journey November of last year. I did 7 months of nutrition, an upper endoscopy, a sleep study, cardiology testing, an abdominal ultrasound, labs, and a psych evaluation. My paper work (for the bypass) was submitted in May and I got my surgery date of 6/28/2018 less than a week later. I am 12 days post op and happy about my decision. I wish you all of the best on your journey! Almost there 😉

@ALFxRNY that worked out really nicely for you. So far everything has been smooth for me too. I hope after I have my last visit with the dietitian and they submit my request to my insurance company it’s really fast.

I hope the same for you! I feel like they give you a wait time for an approval just in case it takes a little longer to review. I was told that it would take up to 2 weeks to get approved but I got the call less than a week later from my surgeon and got the official letter in the mail the following week. Also know that there is no harm in calling your insurance company to see what is going on. People usually check after around a week

I'm excited to say I'm new to the game. Had my EGD done today and my psych eval tomorrow.

I'm nervous as hell, scared I'm going to fail, scared I'm going to disappoint myself.

In the end, I know it will be worth it

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
