The one thing you could not live without post surgery

You need SO LITTLE. I’d say one comfy outfit to leave in, and chapstick.

I always think this kind of topic is funny.

After surgery I really didn't need anything because I couldn't eat, I couldn't really go out, I couldn't do much of anything except sit around and read or watch TV and go on a short walk and text my friends and family - all of which require devices (TV, phone, my legs) that I would have independent of surgery and would never be without when I know I am going to be home bored out of my mind for a few days,

Do you what I need post-surgery that I couldn't live without?

I obsessively watched food shows. Chopped, Iron Chef, Baking shows, etc. For some reason this really calmed my mind.

Unfortunately I was not given any good pain medications to further escalate the stupor I was in. That would have been nice for a few days as well.

Crystal Lite. I hate artificial sweeteners on principle and try to avoid them, but man, Crystal Lite was the only thing that made it possible to get all the Water I needed in.

Crystal lite Pure uses Stevia or truvia (too lazy to get up to check).

It’s not a water bottle but I love my Yetti cup. It keeps things cold or hot for over 12 hours at a time.

I know this is not exactly a thing I could not live without after surgery. But at this stage in my journey, there was something I did that I am very glad I did. I made several before pictures in a certain outfit/location/poses so I could do more down the line for comparison. It is VERY cool to have these to pull out when I needed a little reminder of how far I've come. I also started a journal. I wrote about where I was mentally at that moment and how I felt. What my expectations were and what my fears were. I go back and read that sometimes and am very glad I did that as well. The very best to you in your journey.

So as my day is coming closer and closer I’m running around trying to decide what I need to get to be ready for that amazing day.
What are some of the things that looking back after your surgery that you couldn’t live without post surgery in the hospital and right afterwards.
I am hoping that this will help all who have not had the surgery be able to learn from those who have had it.
What made post surgery easier for you ? What was your can’t live without items?

I have a Yeti cup for my Protein Drinks and milk. These need to be cold for me. Because I drink so slow I needed something other than a standard glass.

First thing I had when I got home... sugar-free popsicles. They only had some terrible orange ones in the hospital.

This makes me giggle because I watched The Great British Baking Show obsessively after my surgery on my 3 week leave. I hate baking shows typically but that’s all I could watch! And now I hate them again but right after surgery it was oddly just want I wanted.

Funny, I have to avoid watching cooking shows to this day because it triggers head hunger

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
