So far I have heard that ther are two foods that most bandsters cant tolerate.... red meat ....and .....Lettuce. The red meat I can understand, especially if it is tough, but what is the deal with lettuce?:phanvan

I can eat them both and so can many people. Its totally individual what you can and cant eat so I think you have to go into this mentally prepared to give up anything.

But it often wont be straight away, it'll be much further down the track as you've had more fills. So it comes naturally, it isnt as hard as you imagine.

I eat lettuce daily. Bread... that's a different story.

Everyone is different, there is no way to predict what you will or won't be able to eat. You'll find out when you try it and it doesn't work.

Red meat I can tolerate and certain types of lettuce. If I eat a salad in a resturant, it has to be ceasar...I can't handle iceberg lettuce! I find that so wierd!

Hi All,

Last night my husband cooked a wonderful steak. From previous experiences I remembered to cut the meat tini-tiny and chew well. I still could not handle it. I was so disappointed. I don't know why there is a problem. Chicken/turkey is the same way, unless is covered in some kind of gravy. (Which defeats the purpose) Pork chops have to be very moist as well. It is weird. Some breads I have no issue with, some I do. My doctor said I needed to eat salads, but I have been afraid to try.

But as everyone says: We are all different.

I haven't been banded yet, so I have a question....when you say you find you "can't handle" a certain food, what does that mean? Just a tummy ache, or actual vomiting?

Well it is like this...I get a hurt feeling behind my sternum and I know I cannot take another bite or sip. I don't vomit, but sometimes I keep burping repeatedly and I spit up phlem. It's not a fun process, but I do not regret having the band. I am still learning about developing better eating habits such as taking small bites, eating slow, don't rush into my food unconciously, and cut up my food into small pieces.

It is a learning process for me. Remember everyone is different.

I'm fine with both lettuce and red meat...if I chew the meat really slowly. bread is out and I just plain do not try anymore. chicken can be out if it's too dry.

And New2tch...that's very similar to the feeling I get when something doesn't agree with me. It just plain hurts.

If I eat the tenderloin part out of the tbone I eat it in very tiny pieces but no other beef. I can do lettuce though but not much of anything first time in the moring.

Hmm... I can't eat beef anymore. And I am a big steak/potatoes person. I tried it in ground beef tacos/sloppy joes.... nope...just slimes back up.

Can't eat chicken either...slimes back up. Even if it's in Soup.

Lettuce is okay, but like the post from above, I have found my iceburg lettuce salads at home I slime up...but Olive Garden or a cesear at a diner...is fine. Must be the lettuce...or the slimy dressing?

bread is fine, too...just not loaf bread...has to be sub sandwich bread.

GraceUtah,

Just out of curiosity, when were you banded? I was 8/20/07 and I have only lost a few pounds. I am hoping to get a fill soon.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
