Brandy, you get the cold icky weather there in the winter. In the summer, I always wish I lived in Eugene. It's in the 60's here in the summer too. I have to go away if I want warm weather, like to Eugene.

I am going to have to do a search on Patty Green.

Im gonna search too if it ever slows down here at work hehe :scared2:

And yes, it was a slow posting weekend, and so far an uncharacteristically slow Monday...everyone suffering the January blahs?

It's still the weekend for most of us. Being a holiday and all.

I have a friend that is seriously in denial. If I were married to her, I'm not sure there would be any other way to get through to her other than threats.

And how exactly will threats do anything good? A lap band is just a tool. You can't get one and expect it to magically work. So you need to get one for the right reasons and be willing to do the work. If you are getting one because of a threat, it's unlikely you'll do the necessary work and you'll just be one of those people who has a band and doesn't lose their weight.

Also, how the hell does her dh get off deciding that the lap band is the right tool for her? It's not the right one for everyone and, again, that is something that someone has to decide for themselves. Maybe this woman really needs a bypass or a sleeve or the DS more than a band. I doubt the dh has gone around doing thoughtful research to figure out which is the best surgery for his wife, even assuming he could make that determination.

People have to make their own choices and they aren't always going to make the ones we think they should. Before you were ready to get WLS, would you have responded well to someone trying to make you? I know I wouldn't have. I wasn't ready and threats or bribes or even rational reasoning wouldn't have made me be ready. I had to be ready and it had to be on my time.

You gotta report back...I'm anxious to see what he's like.

he is very handsome, and quite into how one looks physically. i'm not sure his wife's weight is the issue, more so that she's on the wrong team than he prefers. i'm in the minority of this thinking - but it's not really a stretch.

"ok, ummm.. so i just got another fill today - after getting one last week and now i cant even swallow Water. what should i do??"

 :scared2:

suck on toothpaste - will leave you minty fresh....

passing that thread by.................:)

You are, of course, 100% correct. Like I said, I was just playing the devil's advocate, even though I do (absolutely) disagree w/threats.

I would not have responded well to that demand, and he wouldn't have faired well after saying it to me. I would have walked away, not looking back....And, having the low image of myself that I did, I would probably have spiraled down even further into my ice cream bowl.

Also, being stubborn like I am, I would have hated the lapband and not even considered it when I did get to the point of fixing myself.

But.

How do you approach the subject to someone that their weight is an issue? What if it is a big issue in the marriage? Is it divorce, or accept that your partner is overweight? Is there a medium ground?

I have friends who married thin, he gained weight and she's upset by it. How do you "fix" that as a married couple? When you're married, or in a relationship and you gain weight, it's not just you that's effected. Is it vanity? Yeah, I think that's a large part of it, but, it's also a health/family issue.

I'm not endorsing ultimatums or threats of any kind - ever. I can just sympathise with someone who does see weight as an issue - who has tried to help by eating right as an example, encouraging exercising, and has just come to their last straw.

PJTP~

May be having a major change in my life w/i the next couple of months. No additions to the family or changes in family structure. Can't say what right now as I don't want to have the whole thing fall through.

However, if you are a praying person, I could use all the prayers I can get on this. One way or the other, any prayers to help me find the correct course of action that God intends for me right now in my life. It would be greatly appreciated. If not a praying person, just good thought then would be appreciated. This is something that I have been mulling over for a LONG time now. I need all the support I can get.

Thanks.

Ceradad, I'll get the 800 number from pattygreen and put in a call - gotcha covered! :scared2:

I personally do not do good with ultimatums. It will backfire on the person giving them. My ex hubby tried giving me an ultimatum 1 time. I can't remember what it was about but the consequences was he would supposedly commit suicide. I handed him a knife and said go for it and walked away.:scared2: My parents used to give me ultimatums. I usually done what they said just to keep from getting my tail beaten. Or I would stub up and do the opposite. After I got out of the house I wouldn't put up with them. Give me a choice and I am fine.

oh brandy it's right up your alley!!

i try never to discuss religion - i treat it like my lapband, it's personal and none of anybody's business.

speaking of that (in pjtp mode) we had our close friends come to our ranch for the wkend. GREAT seeing them, it had been 2 months and we had a good time, even though i crashed on them early & vegg'd out most of the time.

dh and i NEVER told any of our friends that we had lapband - even his family is in the dark....just my family & our trainer, that's it. my girlfriend had put on about 30lbs, looks good still & is happy not obsessed w/the added lbs. wanted to know if i was still working out etc. & i said yes. later in the evening, she tells us that a former colleague of ours (who never takes his wife anywhere because he's embarrassed of her weight) was forcing his wife to have the lapband or get a divorce. i looked big eyed at DH, and just sorta dropped it.

who does that??? dh and i talked after they left last night and even at my heaviest DH NEVER said a word about the size of my ass. anyway long winded, but LJM needs something to read today:wink: i see so many posts that some don't have support of family or SO - but yet to read someone was being forced into it. WRONG, just WRONG.

ok my small 2cents for the day....

Wow... whatever happened to "in sickness and in health, till death do us part"??

If I were here I'd tell him that she'll get the Lap-Band if he gets a penis extension -- or else. Not fair if only one of them is satisfied. :scared2:

Hehehe!

Gotta figure out some doozie answers for these typical stupid questions, like:

"Well, if the water won't go down, try eating a double-double cheeseburger to force the opening a bit. Works every time." :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
