Any March 2018 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I’m new to the forum and wanted to get to know y’all. My surgery is next Wednesday, March 14th. A little nervous but feeling positive about it.

I’m so proud of the members I’ve seen here that lost weight prior to surgery. That is quite an accomplishment! I’m not sure I would have the patience to do that.

I chose to be a cash pay patient without using insurance. I had my consultation this week and my surgery is 8 days later! I know I’m moving extremely fast, but I’m on unemployment now and it’s the perfect time to do this so that I don’t have to take off time from a new job to recuperate.

I started my pre-op liquid diet this morning and so far, so good. Protein Shake was fine and now I’m sipping my Water. I’m so ready for this! I’ve been waiting years to have the money saved up. All of my insurance plans over the years did not cover bariatric surgery.

I’m so excited and can’t wait to get to know y’all! Good luck to us all. [emoji847]

Hey! I’m March 14th and self pay (by choice) too!

What time are you scheduled for?

I am just home today from surgery on the 6th. I have 4 incision sites, one which is very painful- where they removed my stomach. I've not tried gas x but I commented on it in hospital, curious as to why they don't give you any. I'm still on Clear Liquids only.

The Gas X only works for gas that is inside your stomach. The gas that they pump you up with is outside of the stomach. Only thing that will really help is to walk and move as much as possible.

My surgery is at 8:30am, but I have to be there at 6:30am. I doubt I’ll be able to sleep the night before, so I’ll probably be waiting for them to check me in. Lol What time is your surgery?

I had my finally check in with my surgeon and now I just "enjoy" the remains of my liquid diet and wait for surgery day.

Congrats to those who have gotten their surgery!

Good luck to those going in next week.

Did your Specialist recommend gas x?? I wonder if I should get some

The PA that works with my surgeon told me GasX works for gas in the bowels, which isn't the area of concern. Which begs the question: how does air exit the abdomen -- isn't it through the digestive tract?

The first days of any diet are the roughest and then it will get easier (but I'm sure you already know that, LOL).

Sleeved on 3/7 and arrived home the next day. My surgeon discovered I had a hernia and had to repair that during my surgery. He says it’s relatively common with people who are obese.

My greatest struggles in the hospital and coming home have been nausea and just a general sense of extreme pressure in the admin area.

I am struggling to keep anything down and have to take all liquids very very slowly... where it all comes right back up. For some reason crystal light will stay down but plain Water wants to come right back up.

I have five incisions. As others have said, the largest one is most sensitive. I found putting an extra piece of guys and some tape over that particular sit incision makes a big difference with the pain.

I haven’t taken any pain meds since my day of the surgery and doing fine except as explained above. Things are definitely improving by the day today is the day I am most active and successful with beverages energy etc.

I don’t have any regrets and I too am glad it’s over. I’m just going to have to work extra hard to stay hydrated and get some Basic calories in my system.

I’m taking things very slowly. I’m wishing all of you the very best of course!

It's Day 6 after surgery. While getting in my fluids and Protein are a challenge I'm doing it, averaging 70g of protein a day and 56oz in fluids (plain Water and clear protein water). My goal is to get up to 64 oz of water/protein water.

After feeling some regrets in the hospital because of the pain, I think I can do this. I'm finally feeling that I can embrace this new stomach and life and finally reach my goals!! 😁

First night home in my own bed!! I slept hugging a pillow, which was very comfortable. I kept in check of the pain, and stayed on track with the pain meds. I slept until after noon!!! I'm having Jello for the first time since surgery on Tuesday. My goal is 48oz of clear fluids today, (4) five minute walks and healing!! How is everyone else doing?!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
