Do you miss being overweight?

Recommended Posts

I'm still preop (two day to go) but I can understand the OP's question. Already I feel a sense of loss for the person I worked so hard to be. My weight is a huge part of my identity and as someone who's never been able to lose more than 40/50lbs in her life it's hard to picture life as anything else. I fully expect to mourn the 'me' I know, but I hope to gain a healthier version I can be just as happy with. Somarissa37 , I'd say I probably will miss being overweight. But in that way you miss a really good book when you're done reading it... [emoji175]

I love this answer , had my sleeve done yesterday 2/22/2018 and I know I will mourn the girl I leave behind. Also I’m kinda new to this app [emoji23]

No way, Jose! I will never miss being so fat that wiping my ass was an epic adventure of discovery and contortion. I will never miss the stares, shame, or ridicule of being the biggest girl in the room/restaurant/fill in the blank. I will not miss the stress on my joints or the arthritic pain caused by super morbid obesity. I will not miss the high risk of cancer recurrence, the more severe asthma symptoms, the GERD, insomnia, etc! I will never miss the lack of mobility, the fall risks, the imbalance, the lack of stamina, the desire to isolate in order to protect myself from shame.

Obesity can go fu*k itself! *snort* With big green donkey di*ks. There is NO part of the old me I will miss. I'm intrinsically the same person inside my Michelin Man fat suit. G'bye fat ass. Hello skinny minny!

kserrynotserry for thinking so rabidly about my fat self. It is what it is.

Just being able to eat what I want, when I want, but I’m in talk therapy for that.

Oh, and I am annoyed at perpetually having to buy smaller clothing. Luckily I already went thru the experience of having to give away expensive clothing several years ago and didn’t replace it with more expensive clothing, but it’s still annoying that I have a Rubbermaid bin full of shirts I bought for a cruise last fall that will probably be too big for me by the time it’s short-sleeves weather in Chicago.

I don't miss being fat per se, but do miss the satisfaction and "joy" food used to bring me. Food is now just fuel, there's no real joy in it... at least not like before. I don't get any satisfaction from eating anymore, even if its something that used to be amazing. I'm ok with making that trade though, I'm finding a lot of joy in other things now.

I do kind of miss the 'being invisible' part of it as well, now everywhere I go people make conversation, hold doors and otherwise are super nice to me and it just feels weird. It's now happening every time I go out, which is nice, but feels weird.

I miss those 66 pounds (so far) like I'd miss an itchy pinworm infection:)

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! I am only about 6 months out but I can tell you that there is no way that I miss my larger self....I feel healthier, my blood pressure, A1C, and blood sugar have dropped, cholesterol dropped, pants size dropped from a 48 and really needing to upgrade to a size 50 down to a size 40 and about to drop to a size 38. EVERYTHING has changed for the better. For the first time in my life I am looking forward to summer to be able to go to local amusement parks with the family and actually fit on rides. There have been way more benefits than I have the time to list here. I love the new me and look forward to me taking the rest of my journey wherever that leads. I will have to be perfectly honest and say that sometimes I miss the "indulging" but that is something that I am able to handle and am dealing with. I understand that it is part of my illness and am doing my share to overcome it! I will not return to my prior size, I refuse to give up, and I am proud of my decision!:D

I can relate to what Jess said about feeling a little more vulnerable alone in public, in the past i would go everywhere and anywhere by myself and never think twice...who wants to mess with a 250lb woman. Now things are a bit different, I'm a little more cautious. But overall, this is nothing compared to how much more comfortable I feel in every other situation including small stuff like fitting into my car or into one of those silly attached desk chairs at school.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
