1000 calories per day...HOW?????

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am in week 5 of post surgery.

My dietician said I should only be taking in 1000 calories per day.

The only problem is, I am hungry every two hours.

How can I possibly keep my calories that low each day?

Any suggestions or ideas as to what to eat?

I am basically eating regular food now.

Just want to see what others think.

Thank you.

If you eat fish it is really easy to keep you calories low.

3 ounces of cod is 15 grams of Protein and 70 calories. You could eat 6 ounces 4 times a day and that is only 560 calories.

100 grams of chicken breast is 165 calories and 31 rams of protein.

A whole bag of baby spinach is like 40 calories.

If you eat protein and veggies and nothing processed is almost impossible to even hit 1000 calories a day.

I ate every 2 hours 4 to 5 times a day to get my protein in and was able to keep my calories low by just eating protein, and veggies.

Can you ask you dietician for specific menu ideas?

My husband has kept 100lbs and kept it off 4 years. He sipped low salt broth a lot between meals. You need to focus on a hobby and believe me there will come a time when you won’t have restriction. Make this time count now.

This is what I had on Day 36 post-op. (Keep in mind that at this point, I was still advancing through the food stages. I didn't get through all of that until 8 weeks post-op.) The numbers represent calories, carbs, and Protein from left to right.

I agree with @OutsideMatchInside, if you can eat "anything," you should focus more on lean protein that will keep you fuller longer on fewer calories.

Roughly every 2-3 hours or so. (I still eat that way. More every 2 hours now.)

Are you getting in your liquids? If you are refraining from drinking liquids for 30 minutes before and after meals, you are giving yourself 1 hour to drink liquids. If you are not drinking enough, you are going to get hungry way sooner.

I make it a point to drink liquids for 2 hours between meals. I can easily drink 16-20 ounces in this time. I eat about 5 times daily, so I can get in at least 110 ounces including coffee and my the Protein Shake.

I wake up at 5am every morning and go to bed at 10pm every night. I have coffee first thing with 1Tbsp of sugar free Creamer. I eat Breakfast at 630am, a snack at 9:30am, lunch at 12:30pm, a snack at 4pm, and dinner at 7pm everyday. Each of those meals/snacks are 200 calories or less. Most days, I top out at around 800 calories, but occasionally I reach 1,000.

Anyway, Water can help to curb your hunger. I just drink it all day long whether I feel like it or not.

What? There will come a time when you can't feel any restriction? Isn't that when you're supposed to do a reset diet?

If someone is eating carbs heavy and bad food ( not this persons husband generally) then going back to Protein first and non starchy veg and measure food. I've heard people 5 years out still teel restriction with protein.

I was told the reset diet is a myth

'Pouch' reset is for bypass patients we have a sleeve. It's not needed to get Back on track but some people have developed really bad eating habit so the detox from food to start a fresh may help them mentally but there is certainly no need for everyone to do it. Focusing on Protein first can get anyone in track and sticking to non starchy veg and protein sometimes I eat my Proteins alone. Non starchy a few hours later for an extra boost and feeling Fuller for longer

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
