I had surgery Jan 2017. I’ve always had low Iron so I guess it’s worse since the surgery. my primary MD wants me to have Iron infusions. Anyone had to do this? I called my surgeons office to make sure it was ok but haven’t gotten a response.

I deal with my primary internist and my surgeon. They don't agree half the time. You have to listen to the advice and decide since it is your health. I have had Thiamine injections, now I am off all Vitamins. Too much Thiamine. On says I have a non functioning thyroid, the other says it is fine. I get sick of this back and forth. Ultimately it is up to me. I am doing the best I can.

I had two Iron infusions prior to my surgery. It was my surgeon that wanted me to have it done. Now I’m post op and take iron 4x a day.

Still no response from my surgeons office. I start next Wednesday once a week for four weeks. Guess it ok to do. I’ll try to call them again tomorrow. His office staff is horrible.

I’m sorry you haven’t received a response. I hope they get back to you soon. My surgeon was the one that wanted me to do it so I can’t imagine it would be a bad thing. Good luck [emoji256]

Finally surgeon ok’d the day before my appt. first infusion went well. 3 more to go. Haven’t felt any different yet but heard it takes a few weeks.

Hi,

I'm curious what your Iron level was? I've always been iron deficient but not too bad. Just had my
Levels checked and my iron is super low. At what point is infusion an option?

I had to have one about a year after surgery. I've been slightly anemic most of my adult life so that wasn't new. The supplements hadn't helped for a year so my surgeon sent me to a hematologist. Had the infusion and then got put on another supplement. I haven't had to have another infusion since. I go to my hematologist every 6 months though.

.

You know I never received the results of my last labs. The RN just called and said he wants you to do iron infusions. I usually get my results online at my chart but they are not showing for some reason

My last test showed my iron was 20 the scales indicates that 35 is the low end...no call yet from my NUT.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
