How did you guys do on your pre op diet?

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 3 of the Optifast800 pre op. It's do-able, although not particularly satisfying. Reminding myself that it is not about food, but health. No Constipation, but rather the other direction. I do want to be surgery ready come 10/5.

Liked the reminder that we have CLEAN Water. I have shelter, I am not "starving" just bored, and food is not friendship, but "medicene".

I am on the liquid diet. The first two days were HARD. I had a terrible headache that just would not go away and of course can't take any NSAIDs this week to help fight it. My doc has us on a shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch and then a low calorie, low fat, no carb high Protein meal for dinner. Pretty much I eat 2 scrambled eggs for dinner. The only good part is the pounds are just dropping off left and right this week. Surgery Monday. I keep telling myself this is all worth it

I am on day 2 and I am having the headaches and getting hungry! Surgery date is Oct 3

We are all different and I keep telling myself that. My doctor started me on the liquid diet 5 weeks ago. My surgery date is 10/2. I will admit that I have cheated a few times in the last month but it has been pretty easy, once I got past the first 4 days. Now I've been on the pre-op liquid diet for a week without cheating at all. Just 9 more days to do. I've got this! It will all be worth it in the end. But man oh man, I am tired of Jello, broth and Protein Shakes.

Lol!! Omg I am too and I am not even half way through! I have 7 more days to go

I feel a bit better (day 5 surgery 10/5). My loss is almost 14 lbs, which surprised me.

I am a bit light headed, not when driving or sitting, but walking. But then again I was before this its just a bit more. Not hungry, which I am grateful for. Stomach quite growling. No Constipation, yay!

I have surgery on the 28th, this Thursday. The pre-op has not been to bad, I do 3 Meal Replacement plant based high Protein Shakes (allergic to milk protein) and until tomorrow can have all the vegetables I want and 1 fruit per day. The regimen really seems to vary by person. Hunger and cravings vary but for 8 days have managed to stay on track. Good luck to everyone.

Same here. Surgery is the 2nd. I was just reading about my post op diet and I'll be on a similar diet for 3 weeks after surgery. I know this will all be worth it but I am so over this part of it.

What do you eat on a day? I’m on day 4 pre op liquid. Operation day is Oct 12.

My doctor uses Optifast 800 for preop. Obviously 800 calories a day. It is 3 shakes, 1 bar, and a fairly good Soup until the last two days when you don't have the bar. Also, until last 2 days, you can have cucumbers and celery (I passed). I'm down 15 or so pounds and 8 collective inches. I found it very easy to do, and hunger has been able to be handled with Water, hot tea, lemonade crystal light. I could have had one cup of regular coffee, but I am not drinking coffee without Creamer.

I do have fatty liver infiltration (by biopsy) and I do think each doctor uses what he's found to give his patients the most successful and doable pre-op possible.

Surgery at 8 am tomorrow! Hang tough! You've got this.

My two week pre op diet is not liquid. My Doc changed it to a low fat low calorie one. Lean chicken. Veggies. fruit. Low fat or no fat yogurt and cottage cheese. It's much easier to deal with.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
