What do you use in place of eating for fun/stress/boredom?

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but running is my go-to. I used to hate it. Started doing it and I love it. Still not dropping weight on my own though. So, walks leading to runs afterwards would be my go-to.

I also like cooking/baking. I have a small in-home baking business. I'm not a big sweets person so it doesn't tempt me.

Otherwise drawing, after a lot of drawing my people looks semi-human. So I draw myself at my ideal weight. Or the Bob Ross painting things on Netflix are fun to follow along too as well.

Artistic things with my kids, by myself, makes me feel more human. Plus, when I was in high school, I'd draw for so long that I'd forget to eat more than one meal per day. So I guess that will work.

So, I am planning ahead for the mental part, that head hunger. This is where I almost wish I could start smoking again (quit 25 yrs ago, and not doing it again) However, I wish there was something else, obviously besides smoking. Is gum allowed after 1-2 months post op, or never?
Also, what hobbies etc has anyone started, to fill that food-void. I am planning on getting a ton of good books, more dog-walking and exercise, using money saved on food & snacking and use it for pedicure or mani once in a while. I have a couple of games on my iphone. I guess I am just looking for other ideas, or reassurance, that the "hobby" of food will be able to be replaced by somehting healthier.

I had surgery in June, down 75lb total now since I started inJan with my lifestyle changes. I started to volunteer more, it made me feel useful and happy as well as grateful. I also have found I enjoy crafting. I have found an easy pattern for these dog tug toys made out of fleece. I donate them to dog rescues or give them away. It keeps my hands busy and doesn’t make too much of a mess and I am not good at knitting! Below is a link to explain how to do it!

This is a great thread! Full of great ideas. Especially timely for me since I'm feeling restless and bored right now. I usually drive to town and make a run through the drive through when I get like this but that habit is over. I'm currently on my liquid diet since surgery is on the 2nd. I really need to put my focus on some other things. I have plenty of hobbies. I crochet, journal, scrapbook, watch movies, read, and I have five dogs that keep me busy. I don't know how I have time to be bored. lol

I moved to a new state a year ago and still have some organizing to do. That *should* be distraction number one, but.... Since I moved, I haven't gotten my coloring books back out. I plan to do that, along with the jewelry making supplies I put away a couple years ago. I enjoyed that and have a big investment, but my job at the time required long hours. Will be good to pull that back out and make gifts for friends. I also plan to walk my dogs longer, do more hiking (dragging hubby out) and re-join a gym in my city for strength training.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
