Having vsg Sept 8 2017

Recommended Posts

Im 2 months post op today. Down 43 lbs total. Im finally down 1 pant size, although they do fit tight around the waist. I think i might be dow 2 shirt sizes but Im afraid to try anything smaller than 2x.
People are definitely noticing my weight loss.
I struggle every day with food choices. My surgeon made my pouch really small and that has prevented me from Overeating. Im no good at meals, I get full immediately and cannot eat more than 1 oz of meat at a time. So i take breaks. I recently had a wedding anniversary and hubby wanted to take me out for dinner and a movie but I conveniently did not make childcare plans. Im afraid of going out to eat bc all I can prob have is a small Soup. I cannot finish a meal.
I have experienced the blahs and try to take it 1 day at a time. I know this is common and hope that I can get past it.. i already feel certain cravings coming on. The only thing that has saved me is my tiny pouch and I know it will not be enough down the line. Just hoping to make it thru the holidays which include my kids' bdays.
Im now averaging 2 days per week at the gym.
Current weight = 244

Dizziness could be from dehydration, be careful. And try mild baked fish for Protein, or moistened pork roast, salmon, turkey chili, turkey enchiladas, cheese omelet. Good progress, keep working at it.

When you only can eat an ounce, try sticking with softer foods so you can get a bit more in (like Sue was indicating).

I hope that you can start going out soon... just stick with a brothy Soup and a drink. Eating out isn't about eating, it's about the socialization. If you can get away from kids for an hour, just go by yourself to a restaurant and order your liquids. (Bring a book or electronic device so you aren't bored). Practice that way until it doesn't feel strange.

Hold your finger on the ellipsis until the supplementary/secondary menu opens as a 'pop-up'. Press and hold your user name 'Gazebo'. When the tertiary menu opens, finger-touch "Profile" ... then set to work.

Or take a few minutes to log in from a desktop computer, a laptop or a larger tablet. The web-browser version of the site is close to painless to use.

Today I learned the value of tiny baby bites. I usually get full and uncomfortable quickly.
Well today I went to chick fil a and ordered the grilled chicken nuggets and was able to eat 7 nuggets in about half an gour by taking baby bites and chewing well. I filled up for a while...longer than ifI had gobbled up 3 nuggets and immediately get sick which is how I was mistakenly doing this entire time. One of my main issues pre op was eating too fast.
There is a TMI story behind that statement which most can fugure out.
Anyways, down to 240!
So excited.

Quick update: down to 234.6 as of this morning. Had no appetite until dinner tonight so will prob lose a little more.
I haven't been 100 percent good. More like 75.
I seem to hit a stall every 3 weeks but I'm noticing my body change even on days..especially on days that I dont lose weight. For example, my tummy shrunk and my legs that were jiggly one day are back to solid :-)
Heres hoping for minimal loose skin.
Hair loss: started at around 6 to 8 weeks. I have a thyroid condition so I'm no stranger to Hair loss, ans I was blessed with a lot of hair so not totally upset. It is annoying tho because I she hair at the worst moments, like cooking or at work.
Stress is paet of life and I'm not handling it well. Fighting the urge to quit my job. With the surgery I lost my coping mechanisms and am searching for new ones. So far I've go lt cooking, music, and organizing.
Thanksgiving came and went. I did so much cooking and was only able to eat a few bites. That was depressing, watching everyone eat. On the upside. L, at least I lost weight during the holidays..thats a first.
My pantss are lose everywhere but my belly and I'm still a size 16 pant down from 18 and a 1x shirt down from 3x. I always wear 1 size bigger to hide my belly.
People are really noticing my weight loss and commenting.akes me very shy and self conscious. While my surgery is not a secret Im not exactly shouting it fro the rooftop lol. I tell people privately to avoid a big discussion.
Anyway, guess not a short ipdate after all.
Hope everyone is doing well.

The stomach flu visited my house this weekend. 1 child, my hubby and me, all while planning a birthday party.
I managed well, trying to stay hydrated and sane and it all worked out in the end.
I had my follow up appts today. My endo jad to lower my synthroid..it seems I'm slightly over active. But I have no negative symptoms, sonwe came to a compromise. I get skip 1 day of dosage. Saw mu surgeon today. Ive lost 52lbs since surgery. (My scale says 60 :-) )
His scale 230
My scale 227
we also started counting at different times.
He says I'm halfway there which would put me at 178?
I read the weight chart in his office and "ideal" weight range for me would be 132 ish to 144.
But I would be more than happy at 175.
Anyway for those counting (me)
Highest weight 287
Current weight 227

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
