Altering my body and still fat?! Help [emoji1317]

Recommended Posts

On September 11, 2015 (less than 2 months from 2 years.) I opted to have the Bariatric sleeve done. Starting weight was 248, my height is 5'2 small build, diabetic among other things. So naturally I was morbidly obese...

Fast forward to now, I have ONLY lost 75lbs..() I weigh in at 173 today, still in a unhealthy percentile for my build. I haven't lost more than the usually give or take +1 or -1 lb each week in over a YEAR!! () I have tried RESTARTS. I go down a lb. but right back up a few days later.

I'm not sure what's worst, me wasting my time on having surgery. Or having surgery and not losing near the amount of weight you want and/or need to lose. It extremely HARD for me to except, after all the work I put in for little results. I'm not happy!! I shouldn't be looking into a revision this soon or at all!! I often say " I ALTERED MY BODY and I'M STILL FAT AND UNHEALTHY!! (Who does that? 🤦🏼‍♀️)

- has anyone had this issue? What did you do?

-is this normal? Or just another fail on my part?

- what can I do? I'm I a total loss?

BTW, please don't kick me while I'm down. I don't want to hear about going back to the DR. or NUT. My DR is no longer doing the surgery due to insurance & hospital going into litigation. Also, I no longer have insurance, so running to the doctor is very costly, and not an option.

Things I do daily:

Protein Shakes

Drink Water ( as hard as it is)

Constantly active

Eat ( small meals of course)

Thanks for taking the time to help! It's greatly appreciated, coming from others w/ similarities.

To go from a BMI of 45 to 31 is actually amazing :) And, if you continue a healthy lifestyle, you should be able to keep it off. Did your diabetes improve at all?

Eating small meals is good, but it would be nice to have more info about what an average day looks like, maybe we can help you tweak your diet.

@lsubabe33

Give up the Protein Shakes and eat real Protein. Your body burns more calories when processing real food. You are also fuller for longer.

Do you weigh all your food and track it? You posted very vague things about what you eat in a day.

What are your macros like daily? What is your protein goal? Do you hit it every day?

Why doesn't you Dr do surgery anymore? Do you think it is possible your sleeve was done incorrectly.

This. Makes me sad to see the OP beat herself up because she's not at a normal BMI yet.

I don't track my stuff. [emoji53]

I believe it was done correctly, but idk. My surgeon don't do it anymore bc insurance companies weren't paying on patients. So the hospital was having to foot the bill. So right now he isn't
Practicing.

I have had a similar experience - I had the sleeve in August 2015. I weighted 225 and have lost 60 pounds and have stayed at this weight for about a year. Although I would like to lose more, I am so happy with the amount I have lost and am grateful to have had the surgery. I know that I could have never lost the weight without the surgery. I don't always make the best food choices and know that I need to kick up my exercise and track my food. I would be happy to share what my NUT and I talked about recently to help me get back on track - just let me know.

You should do an honest accounting of what you are eating every day. It can be so easy to graze and eat a bite or two here and there, but it really adds up!

Measure and weigh your food. Yes, it is a giant PIA, but don't let your investment in this surgery and in yourself go to waste.

Take a few hours and do the math for the foods you eat the most. Make an Excel spreadsheet with the macros.

I don't record/track every single day, but I do "put myself in check" every two weeks or so. I eat every 4 hours and weigh/measure my food.

when you say constantly active, what do you mean? Do you have an exercise regimen or do you just move a lot during the day? Exercise is the main thing, besides eating a ton less calories and mostly protein/veggies, that burns the fat for me. It's my engine. I'm run/walking about 5-7 miles a day, doing power yoga 3-4 times a week and then being very active on a daily basis. So adding in a ton more exercise is important. Once I an a maintaining I'll slow down but right now I need to work as hard as possible when in weight loss phase. When I say I'm working out, I mean I dedicate at least 2 hours a day to hard working out/sweating.

The first step is to track your food. You can't correct anything if you don't know what you are doing.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
