Christian bandsters

Recommended Posts

My prayers are with you! I remember how hard the wait was for me and my whole process from start to surgery was less than a month! I will pray for the time to pass quickly for you and that Gods' timing be when your surgery happens. I am 9 months out and still not at good restriction yet. I have lost 73 # with 20 to go. I am thankful everyday for the opportunity God blessed me with in having this band. I have been "dieting" these past 9 months and it is so comforting to know that I have a tool to help me here shortly!

The motto from another band board was-Nothing tastes as good as thin feels! And that is so true! Are there any bandsters from the sioux falls area looking to get together for coffee? Let me know! I could use some christian bandsters support!

Hi Itquam4,

Thank you for your prayers. I've been trying to lose weight since I'd gone to see the surgeon but it's not easy at all. Right now I'm doing the yo-yo, gain 5 pounds, lose 5 pounds for the last months. I know my life style has to change and I already started. During the week, I walk half an hour every morning before I start to work. I'm a teacher so I go to the gym and I walk there and then I go back to the teacher's lounge and have coffee with my co-workers. I even started to walk a bit after school. If it's nice outdoors and I don't have the car, I walk home instead of asking another teacher for a lift. My big downfall is after supper until I go to bed. Some evenings are better than others but I wish I could just stick to have a bit of Protein with some carb. I'm diabetic so I have to have a snack but as you can imagine, I go over board and sometimes I REALLY GO OVERBOARD and I know it. I'm like an alcoolic, when I start, I can't stop or when I try not to eat at all, that's the only thing I have in my mind. I appreciate all the prayers I can receive.

Thank you,

clempier

I think most everyone with a weight problem can relate to what you just said. I will pray for a speedy answer from insurance-positive of course! Keep up with the excercise. I will tell you my surgeon feels it is the key to being successful with this band. And I agree. I think its two fold, one everyone needs to excercise to build muscle and do cardio for the heart, lower cholesterol, etc. but two, it motivates to be more faithful to better eating habits. When I first got my band I excercised 7 days a week, twice a day for an hour. Mainly I walked or rode my stationary bike. Around Christmas time I found it harder and harder to keep up that routine, time got harder to find! So now I am committed to 5 days a week, at least an hour a day. I bike, walk/jog, do my elliptical, I started a zumba class last week and am looking forward to doing Water aerobics in our pool again this summer! Its so much easier if you find some friends to excercise with. It keeps you accountable and its more fun! Don't give up! Keep plugging away. The more you do the "good habits", the more likely that they will start to stick and be THE habits! And don't live in the guilt, you fall, brush yourself off, and get up and move on. Guilt creates its own force for overeating! I recognized a while ago that I create my own cycles with my guilt. So now I am working on not setting myself up, which happens alot at the holidays-and not allowing guilt to rule if I do fall. Remember, we are saved-washed clean by the blood of Jesus! Clean slate, remorse for a wrong is one thing, guilt is a whole different story! I hope you had a blessed Easter and I will continue to lift you in prayer-for success in life changes and for a surgery date!

Itquam ~ you are sooooooooo right!! Exercise is the real key to success on this journey. When I don't exercise the losing slows way down as soon as I get diligent again, it picks up and remains steady. It does more than just provide physical weight loss - it makes me want to make better choices with food and I start to evaluate or analyze what impact that particular indulgence will have on my body. It somehow becomes not worth it.

I can have a treat like a low carb ice cream bar or even a few hersheys square of chocolate and it is fine - if I have exercised I never give it another thought because I know that my body is burning long after I have completed the cardio work.

I have lost over 100 lbs now and it is an absolute thrill to feel the freedom and waves of physical happiness that comes with it........Be encouraged ladies this does work - IF, IF, IF we remain diligent.

Ask for God to give you strength and endurance and then make an effort to run the race - without allowing any of the old habits to entangle you and trip you up!! Granted, there will still be off days but we can do all things through HIM who gives us the strength!!! :tt1:

Hi all!!!

I just just got back from my UGI to see if there was an issue with the band (slipped, or something) sinc eI had been having this pressure and slight pain everytime I ate. Not to mention the continuous throwing up (at least 1 time a day). The results look good, no issues with the band itself. Dr.Alami said if I continue to have issues to come in to get a slight unfill. Any thoughts? I have had this issue off and on for the last 5 months; very little weight loss (if any), throwing up at least one meal a day, cannot eat anything more than greek yogurt for Breakfast (sometimes not even that), the easiest time of day to eat (literally) is after 8 pm.

I am trying to be really honest with myself about this band but I am sooooo afraid of getting Fluid out and being able to eat too much, but on the other hand I leave for a cruise in 1 week and I am afraid I will not enjoy myself because I might have to get up in the middle of our fancy dinner and make a run for the nearest restroom to throw up. Some people think I will be more relaxed there and should have a better opportunity to eat easier while on the cruise but I just don't know.

Please ANY advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

All,

Please pray for my baby. I am 16 weeks pregnant and just had to have surgery (on Tuesday) to remove my band. Long story short, I had beyond extreme morning sickness and it caused my band to slip. Was admitted last Thurs night/Fri morning. Just came home yesterday.

My little baby has been exposed to anesthesia and pain med. Although the docs tried to use stuff that is 'safer', still, I feel so bad that I had to put my baby through this. I am so worried that some damage has been done. Please pray that God did have His hand on my baby and protected him/her from all of this.

And also pray that I don't let the guilt eat at me. I know the surgery had to be done, but still.

Thank you all!!!

Happy to add my prayers to all the rest you will be recieving! Its a big decision, but one I certainly do not regret and am very happy I did! I am down 112# from my heaviest and although I can lose weight fairly well, I can't seem to keep it off. I am thankful for the band as a tool to use with this step! Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

Chimboree, you are in my prayers. My daughter has also suffered from extreme morning sickness with her pregnancies, and it was very difficult for her. I am so sorry you had to have your band removed, and sorry your baby was exposed to the necessary medications. I am sure the doctors used medications that have a good safety profile for your baby. I pray that the rest of your pregnancy goes well and your baby is born healthy and strong come October. God be with you.

Is there any diabetic on this site?

I'm going for my surgery June 3rd so right now I'm on SlimFast Optima. It's day 5 for me.

The surgery is new here and I'm the first one to go under the knife if I may say so. I have a question and I would appreciate if someone could help.

During that time, can I do exercice and not have hypos? Right now my blood sugars are high and my endo. told me it was normal. My body is trying to adjust to what I'm doing to him...no food, no coffee only SlimFast. He said to be carefull because it's going to drop but don't know when. So I'm scared to do some exercices.

If someone went through the same thing, would you please reply and give me an idea what to do?

I'm so excited about that surgery. I'm doing everthing I can to help. I haven't cheated yet and I'm not planning on.

God is good. He knows how I am. Right now, my Mom, my sister and someone at school are on SlimFast too because they want to support me. This Monday, at work, other teachers, the principal even the vice-principal (how's a man) are going to have SlimFast for lunch. Some even have the idea of staying on it for a couple of days. My Mom and sister are going to do it all the way. Talking about support, I can't ask for more.

Hi Clempier,

I'm not diabetic so I can't answer your exercise question - could your doctor's office help with that?

I am glad to hear from you again - and happy that you will be having your surgery soon. Best of all, you have some great support alongside you. I wish you the best. You will be in my prayers - for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. You are going to do great - and that diabetes will probably not be a problem for you in your future. No promises, of course, but many diabetics are finding that to be true. I hope it will be true for you, as well.

Best wishes,

Hi JoannMarie,

Thank you. I got in touch with the nurse who could get a hold of my Dr. I was taking SlimFast but my blood sugar were high so they switch me to Boost Diabetic. Instead of having 3 servings per day, I'm allowed to have 4 servings with Boost and there's less sugar. In 7 days I lost 10 pounds but I was hungry and my Dr. said I wasn't suppose to. Anyways, all that to say that I had Boost for supper and I'm allowed to have one more before going to bed. About the exercice, I should walk and that's it and I'm fined with that.

God is good, He is there every step of the way. I'm surprise how peacefull I am and not eating is not as bad as I thought. I'm determine to have that surgery and I'm doing everything they're asking. I didn't cheat at all even I had to go to places where there was plenty of food.

Hi to all my brothers and sisters in Christ thank you so much for your encoureging posts . I am in the last month of my pre op program and will be waiting to hear from the insurence after the 18th of June. Pray all goes well. My question is did you tell people at your church about your surgery? On the one hand I would really like all there prayers, yet I know of no one else in my congregation who has had this surgery. I was wondering if any of you told others or did you keep it private? Obviously there is some who think it a lack of will power. Obviously people who have never had a weight problem.

Before my surgery, no I didn't tell anyone, only ones that knew were my husband and kids. I wanted to tell folks in my small group to pray for me, but on the other hand there were a few women in there that I knew would blab it all over the church and would've said it was a self control issue. However, after I started losing weight, if they asked me what I was doing I told them. I didn't want to be dishonest or deceitful and after the fact it was easier. Most, but not all, have been very supportive and now a gentleman in my church is having the surgery next week. Do what you feel comfortable with. Before surgery I just wasn't comfortable sharing and was rather nervous and didn't want to hear the naysayers either. I pray all goes well for you.

I didn't keep it a secret... I told everyone. I felt it would make me more accountable, too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
