Pre op bowel prep?

Recommended Posts

None of my team mentioned this to me. I got the paperwork in the mail for all the preop diet and washing instructions but nothing about this. Does anyone know if this is something standard?

I had surgery on the 20th and I had the same question. My only prep was to have 2 Protein Shakes and plenty of Water after noon the day prior to surgery. They said nothing further was required. I suspect since they are only working on the stomach they just need the stomach to be empty and that's the primary concern.

I would definitely ask them to be sure.

My pre-op was three weeks and trust me it does help clear out the cobwebs in the colon.

One word of warning though, make sure you have been to the loo before surgery for a bowel movement as going right after can be difficult due to the meds they give you etc.

In my paperwork, it only states full liquid diet for 1-2 weeks depending on your bmi and clear liquid 1 day before surgery not about magnesium citrate.

I have to do two weeks of Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch and a lean cuisine type meal for dinner. Day before surgery is Clear Liquids.

I am being sleeved tomorrow and have had to do clear liquids today and take pico prep (a bowel prep treatment) at lunch. It's foul! [emoji12]

How did surgery go?

I started my 2 week pre-op diet on April 17th .On May 1st I could only have clear liquids. I also had to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate (sp?)

My doctor only required the two days of clear liquids but I did a bowel prep (polyethylene glycol) like you do for an endoscopy anyway and I am so glad I did because I would Not want all of that in my colon to deal with after surgery. It was difficult enough, I was so glad (and so were the nurses and my doc) that I did the prep. The pain meds would have backed me up to China! [emoji854][emoji15]

I did not have to do a bowel prep before WLS. Since I was on a clear diet 3 days before surgery and did not cheat, one wasn't necessary.

I've also never had to do a bowel prep before an endoscopy, unlike VeggieMonster.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
