Got a Date but still need some advice

Recommended Posts

I've got a date for April 6th i got approved last Friday while at lunch. I have been doing what my doctor told me i have lost around 40 lbs since the start of the process i probably could have lost more. The question i have is since approval that has been a relief, and I wanted to eat some pizza or eat a hamburger from an old college hangout. i know i wont be able to do this after surgery. My doctor told me that they really do a strict preop 1 week out just in case your liver is enlarged but since i have been on a 1000 to 1500 calorie diet for the past two months that shouldn't be a problem. i just wander if any one else had this issue when they got approved that they wanted to say on last good by to some of your favorite foods since you know there will be no more for a while.

For sure. I had all my food funerals about a 6 weeks prior to my surgery. I didn't do them all at once but spread them out over a 3 week period. I visited my favorite Italian restaurant for Pasta, Mexican, and had some of my favorite Desserts. I didn't have to do the 2 week pre-op liquid diet but I made sure the food funerals were over by then.

I'm pretty against food funerals. I think they're bad for your mental health long term. The thing is, you'll be able to eat some of those things after surgery -- this isn't the death of food for you. It's just the death of eating massive amounts of those foods.

Can you have a bite of your favorite burger, post surgery? Yes. So start thinking that way NOW. Have one bite of whatever it is you're craving, instead of the whole burger. Start learning to accept that your eating habits will be different, but you can still have good food. You'll be happier long term if you do, I think!

But if you think all the time that you're depriving yourself, you won't be that happy at all...

I've wondered this myself - I'm resisting the urge to have the "food funerals". I really want to be in a better mindset and understand (or trick myself into understanding at least?) that there is no point in a food funeral because I've had plenty of it all and that is why I'm in the shape I'm in now! I've instead started to look for healthier options when going to favorite spots. My husband and I have been deciding ahead of time - hmmm, what will we get to share when we come here after my surgery so I have a few bites? Look to the future - a healthier future! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
