Hi Everhopeful, I too am going for my first fill on Sept 18th! What time are you going? I'm booked in for 3:20pm, which should give me plenty of time to travel down from near Manchester. What date did you have your band fitted, as you've done really well to lose 31 lbs?

Maybe I'll see you down in London!!!

Kath.

Hi Angie

I am scheduled to see him at 7.30 at his house on the Monday evening before the operation on the Tuesday. Diet OK so far but I have to go shopping tonight so I'll have to keep focussed!

hiya everyone just followed the link to read the article on the 3 women who had the gastric band and can not believe some of the comments people have left on there i can see why people choose not to tell anyone about surgery because you get judged so much i didint really want people to know but my mom has been telling everyone and im thinking now is that everybody is thinking about me.

Hi Mooster,

Am not booked in as such as they were fully booked so have to get there for 11.30 and just wait. Could be a long old day! I was banded on 12th August in Brussels.

Maybe see you in London!

Hi Jackruss,

I am too feeling hungrier by the day! And night too, in fact! Trying best to curtail my eating and managing okay but finding it tricky. Still, feeling fitter than felt in ages so can't complain!

Take care x

Hi EnglishRose,

Glad to hear all is good. Looking forward to the day I can post fabulous full length pics of me of the world to view on facebook!

lol x

Hi Nick, i am going to see Dr Chris tomorrow in Dublin so i guess he will tell me then what time i have to see him in Brussels. I fly in early in the morning on the Monday, so anytime will do. Hope you don't mind me asking but are you bringing someone with you? and where are you flying from? I'm bringing my parents with me. Hubby can't go cos he can't get off work (teacher). It's actually my poor dads 60th Birthday on the Thursday! so i booked an extra night cos i didn't want him spending his birthday travelling all day! I wonder if i can order a birthday cake from anywhere??

Hi Angie

Dr Chris usually suggests having a fill after 6 weeks because you need to heal before having a fill.

Im not going to Dr Chris for my first fill as he was fully booked up until October and I felt 2 months was too long to wait for a fill.

I think the amount he puts in depends on how much weight you have lost and how much you are able to eat. I dont think there is a set amount he puts in, I think everyone is different.

yeh ! i think i am trying to run before i can walk lol!! Probably best just to wait the 6 weeks then. Might consider going over to Belgium for the fill though cos it is only working out 250 euro for 2 flights (hubby and me), hotel for 1 night and fill!! will see what dr chris' available dates are over the half-term break and surprise hubby! i am so excited!

Bit worried though cos my liver function tests came back yesterday and my doctor says that they are very very slightly raised! probably due to the bloodpressure medication. do you think this would stop him operating?? i started the pre-op a week early and have lost about 6lb now and still have 2 weeks left. Should i tell dr chris or do you think it nothing to worry about?

Hi Angie

Im sure your liver will be okay as you still have another 2 weeks to go. The lady I shared a room with was eating Indian takeaway 4 days a week so her liver must have been far worse than yours and he still operated. I wouldnt say anything to him but the decision is yours of course. I wouldnt want to advise you wrongly but I dont think you will have anything to worry about.

Thanks Englishrose!

Yeh i think i have kind of come to that conclusion too! if it were very serious i think my doctor would have asked for more indepth tests and she knows about my operation coming up - so i guess if she not that worried then i needn't be! think i will just keep it to myself then!!

How are you getting on with the band?? you have done great to have lost so much weight in only 3 weeks!! well done!!!!!!!

thanks for your help!!

Hi Angie

I have just read the letter which you give to your doctor afterwards which explains his findings during the operation and the proceduce itself.

Dr Chris said I had a rather large omentum (inevitable really) and a mild steatotic liver. So I guess I was in the same boat as you liver wise so stop worrying!

I have adjusted to the band really well. The weight loss has slowed down to about 3lb a week which I am happy with. I had cottage pie yesterday and had the same size portion as my 2 year old. I do feel hungrier in the evenings around 9pm so I normally have crackers with cream cheese on. I am eating well under 1,000 calories a day and loving my band.

I had a bit of a bad experience the other day when something got stuck or I ate too quickly and started purbing (heaving flem) sorry to be so discriptive but it soon cleared and the rest of my lunch went in the bin, too bloody scared to eat it.

Still think its the best decision I have ever made. Ive never lost 22lb in 1 month before, I am so chuffed!!!.

Feel free to ask anything and I will answer as best I can.

Hi Angie,

I just want to reassure you that you are in good hands with Dr Chris and his team. Can I suggest that you tell him about your liver tests. It´s not that he won´t operate on you because of it, but I really think you want to have an open dialogue with him.

None of us on the forum know anything about your medical history and maybe there is something that could affect your surgery.

E.Rose, you are being a wonderful support person on this thread and I really hope you don´t take offense to my reply to Angie. It´s not meant in a bad way to you.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
