Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Hi all

Hope everyone is doing ok?

So after feeling very chuffed with myself at my weight loss in recent weeks, I was at the docs on Monday with Hubby following an op to get his dressing changed, and when our Doc came in to check the wound she says straight away to hubby "well you could do with losing a few pounds" then turned, looked me up and down and said "hmmm you could as well"! I was absolutely taken aback and stated that I had lost over 5 and a half stone, she replied "obviously a way to go then"!

I was stunned, escpecially as she is not a small woman either, and she then twigged who I was and said "oh yeah the gastric band, it seems to work then" and that I needed to remember to go back and see her about the IVF when I have shifted the rest of my weight! I pointed out that I am just a stone away now from the guideline limit for weight and BMI for treatment and she again looked me up and down and said "Really?".

I don't think I have ever been so shocked by someones comment, and the nurse who was tending to Hubs just stood there open mouthed and then apologised for my Doc when she left the room with the final comment to both of us to "get on the salads"

Well I booked my appointment with her for the the 14th March as I left the surgery, and when I go back I have a good mind to make her get on the scales as well and see who out of the pair of us is lighter and actually doing something about it!

Needless to say I am not feeling very confident now about her response and whether I can now convince her to refer us again as she still clearly thinks I am too fat,

Gutted, but fingers crossed eh

Oh hon

your gp sounds like a right b*tch...some people can be so nasty!!

she obviously has a problem.

switch gps. You don't need that. you are doing something positive and she may be just resentful and jealous. don't let the likes of her knock you. you are doing so well xx

Claire

My daughter finishes school this year and I promised her a girly holiday of her choice. She chose a cruiseround Italy and Greece (that'll teach me!) so we are off in June.

Sarah,

I have had one fill so far back in October so I have probably waited too long between them. I am going to book for the 18 March so I might see you there. You are absolutely right. What is the point of going through the op if we don't hang in there and stick it out. I have been much better behaved today and the band is trying to tell me something as I was sick after one spoon of rice tonight which is unusual for me.

Shaz

That's lovely, enjoy I am sure that you will. I have this pleasure to come. Myt fdaughetr ha=s just been allocated her secondary school and we got the school of choice - thank goodness.

Glad the band is letting you know! Take care and enjoy

This is just dreadful, I am appalled to think that a professional would talk or treat you in this manner.

Did you have your weight recorded at the surgery before the op? If you did then perhaps book in with the practice nurse and have her record your new weight.

Is there another GP you could see?

Just remember that if you have already been referred in to the IVF route then this stands and you may be ale to approach the Consultant directly. Where abouts are you based? North South England Scotland, Wales etc

Do hope that your appointment is ok and take no s*it as she should know better particularly when there is so much at stake. Perhaps you may even be fortunate to fall pregnant naturally - my fingers are crossed.

take care and be positive and strong you beautiful woman!

Ah Thank you Claire and everyone, good to know it's not just me that thinks she was being a tad harsh.

Yeah my weight etc is well documented and has been since I was 19 cos of my PCOS etc, and we have already been down the route with consultants in the past, had all the tests etc done including hubs (he's fine, just me that doesn't work) and then it has all ground to a halt again because of the weight, hence why I did this, so feel quite gutted that my efforts are still not deemed to be good enough.

Really, really, really hoping that I fall pregnant naturally especially as my monthly's have returned 3 times in a row, which hasn't happened for years! Still don't appear to be ovulating so want to get prescribed Clomid again at least.

Just need to shift a few more pounds before I see her on the14th and try and convince her,

Will keep you all posted, and thanks for listening to my moans and offering support

Hello

Yes I have and I have had it a couple of hours after eating.

Once I have got rid I feel a lot better. I think there are some foods that generally produce this and it can happen randomly. Not a lot of help really. But just so that you know that there are others out there who sympathise.

Take care

Hello

It's very quiet, sure everyone will be back in to visit soon.

I have found the clinic in London to be busy with appointments every 10 mins. But if you need to ask questions then you ask. After all you are paying £80 for a consultation and a fill.

Hope you are finding the band ok and that it has settled down. I am due to go for my third fill tomorrow and pleased with the fact that I have nearly lost 70 pounds so looking to loose the last 31 pounds hopefully with this fill. I think it might prove to be a little elusive but I shall endeavour.

Anyway will pop in after tomorows appointment.

Take care and look after yourself.

All for now

Pinkshaz, maybe you need another fill. Since my last one on 10th feb I am back to my pre-defill weight, albeit I have been ill with flu for about 3 weeks.

I cant eat hardly anything, but not feeling hungry so I dont care. Taking vits and whey Protein Drink every day so I dont get ill from lack of nourishment.

I was like you before I got to my sweet spot and could eat loads of crisps, not good. Not much nutrition in a bag of crisps.

maybe you need to look at that hunny.

Hi Freckles, thought s as today was my band anniversary I better show up and say hi to everyone. I can't believe it's a year ago today I had my band fitted by Dr Chris. I am so pleased I had it done even moreso of late since my last fill in Nov to get over the prolonged plateau I was on. I went to try a new shirt today and instead of being an 18" or 19" collar I fitted into an 16.5", what a shock but such a nice one. I bought a new overcoat the other week in "L" rather than XXL.

I would like to say good luck to anyone about to start their journey and suggest that they go for it. Hope you are doing ok too.

Well done on your weight loss puddlejumper the time is not long in flying in is it.Its a great feeling trying on clothes and them fitting you no problems.I can remember i was 4xl now im in large.I still see myself going into a clothes shop and going straight to the back of the rail looking for the bigest size lol

Like puddlej said to the ones starting the journey go for it you wont regret it.For me it was the best money i have ever spent it was not easy but well worth it.

Hi echarlenex the slimming stuff that comes back up is when you have not chewed your food up or eaten to quick. When your band gets full up or blocked your body tries to break up the blockage by producing extra saliva and because it cant get past the food the only way is up.If i can give you one tip is as soon as you feel the feeling of the slime coming back up dont eat or drink anything untill the feeling passes.I have got to learn how the band works for me and once you master that it gets alot easier.I still bring back up food now and again especially when im in restaraunts as i feel rushed but you will get used to the feeling and know when to stop.Hope this helps.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
