Recommended Posts

Hi Paul, Glad to hear it went well and you are now on your way home, and on the way too the new you! How horrendous is the pain? That is what I am dreading the most as I am a wimp. Does the pain control they give you help at all?

Hope you feel better soon.

C x

Truthfully, i think the most painful part which made

me yelp was when I had the drain tube removed , I was a little shocked

to see how much was in there. Mind you one steady pull and it was out all

15" of it!! The needles were fine honestly hardly felt them. The barium mix for the

final xray takes some getting used too, and the subsequent toilet visits

after a novelty as I hadn't been for a while till that kicked in! Really that's

all there was to it apart from being a lot more dopier than usual after the op!

He'll of an experience too, am so pleased my son came with me to help me carry

stuff for me.

Ah bless, well I didnt have the drain tube, Michael doesnt use them, so maybe thats why I was not feeling so much discomfort. Sorry hunny lol.

I should take more notice of this on my sig....

Flavour your words with care you may have to eat them

Hi all Im back from my hols in Egypt. Checked the scales and guess what Ive lost 1/2lb. I cant beleive this as I had a defill before I left and was so glad I did. It is 9 months since my band was fitted and I am now a different person. The clothes I wore on holiday were a size 12 and it was so lovely to wear something I liked rather than something to hide the lumps and bumps. I felt more confident and went snorkelling, and on quad bikes, something I wouldnt have done previously. Oh I also went on a camel were as before I wouldnt have let the poor camel try and carry me. It has all been so worth it. I still have around 11lbs to lose but this time I know its gonny stay off.

Can I say well done Gary and Bobo your both looking great, Carrie youll have that few pounds off in no time your gorgeous anyway and Freckles your hairstyle is great and really suits you.

Also to all new bandsters you wont regret it, if you feel as half as good as I felt on holiday you will realise it is sooo worth it. Jx

Howdy all.

I'm getting quite scared now. I paid my deposit 2 weeks ago, the bank screwed and it was eventually sent about a week ago. So it should be at their account by now but I have been emailing Frederik to see if they've received it but I don't hear anything back. I've sent about 6 emails now.

I'm supposed to be getting banded on the 2nd April but I'm scared it wont happen becuase I don't hear anything and I dont know what to do. I should be thinking about the 2 week diet but I'm more worried that isnt even going to happen. I've booked annual leave and sorted the kids out, my hubby has booked leave for the week to take me and look after me and everything.

What shall I do?

The last thing you need to do is get stressed, as long as your bank has sent all will be ok, remember a lot of people have been and are going to be banded over these few weeks, so dont be overly concered about not having a reply from Fred. One lady who was banded the same time as me only had 2 days notice and paid her deposit the same time as her balance. All will be well I'm sure.

Thanks mmm, that's quite reassuring to know. I do hope I have some notice though, so I can go ahead and book the eurostar etc. Fred and I haven't exchanged any of my details or anything yet. I was just being nervous I guess.

I'm sure all will be well :blushing:

Freckles - Ok you miserable old fart! (don't believe a word of it) hopefully see you there hun. I'm 5'6, dark curly hair and may well have a dark-ish green coat on.

Garry - Thanks hun, I still have a long way to go, slow and steady. I hear what you are saying about the Soup. After the op I wasn't hungry at all, probably because of the swelling, and could only manage HALF a tin of soup!! I'm guessing that's what restriction feels like?

Wannabe - Just to clarify, when are you planning on setting off home? You are in hospital the night of the operation and until early afternoon the day after, then they like to see you the following day just to check everything is ok. Are you sayig you want to leave Brussels the day after your op? I'd personally say that's too soon (and people reckoned I handled it better than most), but everyone is different. I'd advise going getting the strongest dissolvable co-codamol you can get or equivalent. The paracetamol they give you at the hospital is ok, but I found my co-codamol to be better.

Kerry - somehow I managed to forget you were going this week!! Good luck honey, though I'm positive you won't need it. x

Paul - Update please!! I'm bursting to know how you got on hun. Hope you aren't too sore. x

Hi Jojo - puddlejumper to base ...come in base.... reporting in finally! Wow what a trip, enjoyable , painful, successfull.

Don't quite know how I am still alive after no solid food since Monday(the last supper syndrom at the Campanile), and now its Friday afternoon.

I would agree with you about staying over the extra night unless you fancy being caught by the police for looking like your drunk in charge of a backpack! Stay there and recover is my suggestion. It's bad enough coming out after this extra time, as the old team work between the two legs just didnt want to play together, had to coax them to work as a team again, and the traffic from the hotel to the train took an hour instead of 20 mins due to heavy traffic, I thought we were gonna miss the train at one point. but managed it with 10 mins to spare....

Well living on milk shakes and tea, coffee, juice for now, i have tried a yoghurt but only managed half the pot! Tummy is grumbling now but maybe it is realising is hungry after 4 days of one up from nothing! Bless it. Gotta get me a ticker now!! Good luck to the girls today , no doubt by now they are in the land of nod! apparently I looked great coming out of the op, according to one of the girls coming in after me, eyes rolling trying to focus, gave it up as a bad job for several hours, when I woke up shivering, so they gave me a space blanket to warm me up, don't remember much after then till later!:blushing:

Hi all,

It was good to meet Freckles in Manchester for the fill, and GOOD to see Freddy again! :frown: Ignore Freckles when she says she has a miserable face, she's lying!!

Looking forward to hearing from Kerry and how her experience was.

Paul, I was exactly the same when I came round after the op in recovery, shaking and shivering like never before and fighting to take the oxygen mask off, I think the nurses got a bit pissed off with me to be honest, I wouldn't wear the mask or the tubes up your nose later on, kept insisting I knew how to breathe oxygen in all on my own thank you very much!! I don't do coming round from anaesthetic very well!! I had the space blanket too. Isn't it a weird feeling not being hungry? It passes after a week or so unfortunately, lol.

Had my first fill yesterday, and as expected I don't feel much difference, bring on 4 weeks when I can have another.

I'm so glad you're not feeling hungry Paul, wish I wasnt. I had 1/2 ml put in Freddyboy was a bit apprehensive about putting more in because of my overfill last year, but I think my insides must have shrunk cos I can still eat anything, albeit small portions. last night I ate a roast pork dinner, only on a tea plate and I had to keep going back to it, but I did finish it eventually, I must be a greedy pig.

Jojo was lovely to meet you and your friend, I must say your piccys dont do you justice. and you dont look like you need to lose much weight either.

I think I'll be going back next month unless this band changes.

Freddy was so good he has trouble finding my port cos its tilted and lays on its side, and it hurts when he tries to find the flat part which he explained was because the side of the port, the hard plastic bit digs in the muscle. bless he is a love.

I think he rather fancies Jojo cos he offered to escort her on her frequent trips to Cyprus.lol. Little sexpot.:frown:

Howdy Fellow Bandsters!!!

I have made it home safe and sound. I have to be 100% honest and say I am a little sore and swollen from the gas but other than that I feel ok.

The package was definetly the best way to go and went super smooth - no hassle what so ever.

Was taken into hospital at 7.00 am and shown to my room, nurse did all the pre op stuff and then went for consult with Dr Chris - everything was explained very clearly and all my questions were answered. After op I was choking for a drink but was only allowed the sponge lolly to wet my mouth - didn't have an awful lot of pain but was very very swollen from the gas. Barium xray the next day was fine and unlike most did not make me have the trots... Got discharged around 1.30 and back at hotel by 2ish.

Frederik came by to see me later and I asked him about my port and drain site as both were very hot and burning and was worried I had an infection but he assured me this was normal and would ease off over next few days.

The one thing I would say is try and walk about as much as possible to get rid of the gas as it is very uncomfortable and made the flight home today a bit horrid.

Still not hungry at all and have managed to drink liquids without any problems - I took bovril, coffee and hot chocolate with me and have managed to drink them all without a hitch.

Not in any real pain now apart from the gas which is a nightmare and happy that everything went so smoothly.

The level of care you receive is excellent and everyone was so nice and friendly - I can not find fault with any of it to be honest - spotless clean, very approachable and all speak good English.

I am now looking forward to the next fews months as the journey to the new me starts.

Sue and Susan it was an absolute pleasure to meet you both and your partner and friend - Sharon (an absolute nutcase - what a joy to be with thankyou, and Rae - you were a godsend to Brian even if he has now got the hangover from hell.....)

Speak to you all soon

Hi Kerry, so pleased to hear everything went well. Thanks for the full run down, very helpful for those nervously waiting to go. Was the consult with Dr Chris in the morning the first one you had, or had you seen him in the UK before?

Wish you a speedy recovery, keep us posted on your first week.

Take care

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
