Anyone had complications after surgery?

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery on 12/22 and had a horrible night that night with sweats- it's ok because I was probably wheeling off the anesthesia.

Next day, I go down to have my upper GI and feel real faint. I passed the upper GI but when I'm waiting in imaging to go back- I tell my husband to call the nurse because I was having lots of cold sweats and wasn't feeling good. Turns out they called a code rescue ( great team at south Miami hospital) and they rush me to CT to see if I might have a clot. Turns out no clot, thank God, but I did have a hematoma from my suture and it was bleeding. Turns out that my hemoglobin went all the way down to 7.3. I'm up to 7.9. Of course, I also get my monthly visitor making the situation a little more grave because I have more blood loss.

Well, I was sent home yesterday 12/26 still very pale but trying my hardest to get better.

Was wondering if anyone had the same or similar complications?

Thank you all for contributions in advance.

Sandy

I actually was sleeved on 12/20. I was in the recovery room when I realized that my left side was hard and swelled up like a grape fruit. Turns out that I developed a hematoma. They reopened me right there and cleaned it all out and packed me. They kept me in recovery all night for observation and then sent me to a room where I stayed an extra night. I now have this wide deep open wound in my abdomen that needs to be packed daily. And will likely take over a month or more to heel. Really sucks.

But as far as the sleeve, I'm tolerating liquids fine.

I had one very minor complication. 1-day post-op they took me off the morphine drip and switched me to Norco Syrup. Thir policy is to not discharge until they know you can tolerate oral pain medicine. A minute after I took it, I vomited bloody foam. This freaked out the nurse, but my surgeon didn't seem phased by it. Because of the blood, they took me off blood thinner injections for the day, discontinued my liquid diet to ice chips only, and switched me to a Tylenol syrup and watched me for another day. Then the next day they put me back on liquids and blood thinners and had to wait for those numbers to come back to normal. So, my one-night hospital stay turned into a 3-night/4-day hospital stay.

The irony is I never once needed the Tylenol syrup once I was home.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
