Had my first puréed food, somebody talk me down!

Recommended Posts

Had my first post-op appt today and doctor cleared me for puréed. 2oz. of tuna salad, puréed smooth and I can't take it. I feel weak, broke out into a cold sweat and I just want to drink some Water so bad but it's only been 15 minutes. Do I need to eat less? I spent about 20 minutes eating it, was that too fast? I even chewed when there wasn't anything to chew! Oh man, I think I'm going to miss my liquids . . .

Yes, try eating just an ounce next time and see if that goes better. It does sound like you may have eaten too much. Those amounts they give you are a ceiling, not a floor. There is nothing wrong with eating less than the maximum amount. Good luck!

Thanks. This is going to be a serious learning curve. I totally get the slow progression to solid food now. Probably TMI, but right after I posted, I had diarrhea. That's not dumping is it? I didn't have nausea.

Yup. Sounds like dumping. Cold sweats and Water poop and/or vomiting are signs. Go back to full liquids for a day or so and then eat less and eat slower. Try something different, too. Hummus, guacamole, refried Beans, really wet scrambled eggs...

Ugh.

I dump. It's a good thing. Ice cream was my favorite thing -- no longer and I no longer WANT it so I don't miss it. Cream based Soups? NOPE. It actually repulses me because of dumping. Alfredo sauce. Hellz to the no.

Rice? Pasta? Nope.

Dumping is sucky and it helps me stay on track. I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Maybe the mayo? It was premade from WF so full fat mayo. I think I'm going to try some plain whipped sweet potato and see what happens.

For me it is all about speed. My Protein Shakes make me dump if I drink them too fast. Now I nurse my shake over at least an hour...

What are really wet scrambled eggs? Not

Cooked?

They are just barely cooked. I add cheese and butter to make them even moister.

They should be shiny and just past the liquidy stage but not fully set.

Luckily, soft scrambled eggs are my favorite! So far, I haven't had anymore problems. I think I gobbled up the tuna too fast. I'm pacing myself much better now.

I went to a Mexican restaurant yesterday. Ordered some avocado slices (mushed them at the table), refried Beans and sour cream. So good! My Mom said with a concerned look, "Is that all you're eating?" Then I had to tell her that I wasn't going to make even a dent in the portions they gave me. And I didn't, I had maybe 2Tbls each of the Beans and avocado. Then Mom asked me if I want some lemon in my Water. Poor Mom, she was practically inconsolable when I told her a can't drink and eat at the same time.

Seems like I'm taking my life-changing surgery much better than my family. My Mom was my biggest weight critic since childhood. I didn't see it before but now I do - she was also my biggest enabler.

I haven't gone to a restaurant yet. I guess I don't see the point but I am 11 days out

For me, the point is just living. I was out shopping with my mom and sister and they were hungry. It can't be all about me all the time, especially when I can figure what to eat with little issue.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
