3 weeks post-operative, solid food hurts!

Recommended Posts

My surgeon told me that I should start eating soft foods at this point. But, most of the time when I try something other than liquid (or yogurt, pudding, shake), it feels like there is a painful rock filling up my stomach. I had some french onion Soup which really just had pieces of boiled onion in it and a soggy crouton, but it hurt. I also tried thoroughly chewing a couple bites of toast. Same thing. I also have some nausea but haven't actually thrown up.

So my question is whether this could be a stricture? Or is it just my stomach is particular sensitive and I need to let heal longer?

Oddly, I've been able to eat some string cheese without a problem, but that's about it. So, I'm really hoping it's not a stricture.

I'm also three weeks and my plan does not allow for bread. Maybe that's the issue, since the cheese has been ok. The easiest thing for me to eat so far has been refried beans--with some cheese on top, it's so good after a month of liquids!!

Probably not a stricture. If you have pain we were told to move back a stage for a couple of days. If you're off your pain meds you might want to try some liquid Tylenol.

Also, not everything is going agree with you anymore. Maybe bread just isn't your new tummy's thing right now. I haven't yet gotten to the soft food stage, but I am sure I will find things I can't eat anymore. I have a friend who recently recovered from esophageal cancer, she wasn't able to eat carrots raw for over 3 years, but could eat celery fine. Our bodies are weird. :)

I have more problems with my pouch in the morning. It's like a raisin before I get it going again. Even Water hurts.

I made my first scrambled egg this morning. The first tiny bits went down like a rock and the unpleasant feeling started... 15 min later I'm eating my cold scramble without any problems!

Try and try again!

The bread is the likely candidate it clumps and creates a dough ball. No Bueno!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
