9 hours to banding, female question.

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled to get banded today, well in 9 hours. I'm both excited and nervous. I'll be staying over night at the hospital so that's somewhat of a relief.

But I am soooo thirsty right now. My Dr's rule is nothing after 9pm. How on earth am I going to make it to 1:30pm without any Water. I am a big time Water drinker.

Oh and I just realized my period won't be over by the time of surgery either. Can I wear underwear and a pad? This is the first surgery I'll be having as an adult so I've never run into this problem. I have an IUD so I'm not on a regular monthly cycle, more like every 2-3 months I have a light period so scheduling surgery around it would have been difficult.

Thanks,

Leena

Do you wear tampons too? That would be much more preferable to a pad I'd think. Tell your nurse when you get there what's going on and ask if you can keep your underware one. They are likely to say no (that's why the tampon) but it's worth asking.

If you need to, get out of the house and drive around or go to a mall and walk around or something. Sometimes being at home just sitting is the worst thing you can do. Go run some errands before 1:30.

Good luck! We'll be waiting to hear how it goes for you!

Talk to the nurse and tell them your concern if you cant/wont/don't have tampons there are other alternatives. If its a really light flow they might just tell you not to worry about it and put an extra tucks pad under you for the duration of the surgery/recovery.

Or even a pad with the old belt like they used to have before adhesives is what they did with me for my appendix surgery. but that was in 2003 no clue if they still get those. lol

I was in the same boat. They will give you an extra long pad to wear during the surgery without underwear. Unfortunately, you cannot wear a tampon. I just made sure I had my own supplies for after the surgery. It was not as bad as I thought it would be...

Congratulations and you will be fine!

I was not allowed to wear anything, luckily by the time surgery came around it was really light. They have seen it all, but I know it sucks!

Good luck!

I was just banded last Wednesday and they let me wear a fresh tampon before I was wheeled in. Just tell the nurse that is helping you pre-op. There has been a variety of threads about this issue and every hospital has a different opinion and protocol.

Good luck and wishing you a very speedy recovery!!! B)

I was in the same boat and super freaked out about it! No underwear, no tampon...but they were so nice and let me slip into the bathroom literally on my why to the op.room so I "felt" clean, then the nurse promised to slip a pad between my legs, they were really understanding and assured me it was no big deal..when I woke in recovery - there was the pad!!

Don't worry, nurses and docs are very used to that sort of question so just go ahead and ask one of the nurses what you should do.

in most cases they'll just put a pad (BIG) between your legs and that's it, it's nothing much for them, they've seen it over and over again.

They gave me some lovely mesh panties and one of their pads (yuck). I ended up going from 9:00PM to 3:30PM the next day before surgery w/o food or Water. I was so excited that I didn't really notice so much the time of waiting.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
