No one in Nov?

Recommended Posts

I guess all of the surgeons are different. I did not have to start any kind of diet prior to the surgery (Nov. 5th). He did mention that I should try to lose some weight prior to shrink my liver though. I started back up on the Atkins diet, I really liked it when I was on it. I just plateued after 3 1/2 years of being on it for way to long. So, I went off during this summer and gained back 30 out of the 60 I lost. I'm hoping that the LB will give me a chance to lose the 30 plus another 60. :-) I've seen some recipes on this site for the liquid Protein Drinks though. Keep searching. Those who use them know what they are talking about. Dianne

Rock on Jrsyshoregirl!! That is great news for you and your sister...not so great for Mom...she will be a very busy lady.. I am glad you got your date set.

Oh and what I meant about my boss was that she is a huge weight watchers fan..so I should not do anything other than weight watchers because it works for her. .. So that is why I do not want to tell her.

ooooooohhhh. ok. lol.. yea.. So... is anyone having the issue of being torn between the band and the bypass??? Ive literally been obessing over it for the past 16 hrs.. Im scheduled for the band... but Im worried that its not going to be for me. :) .

Ive looked up the pros and cons and i am seeing way too many people having to get it revised.. WOMEN in particular.. seems to be that the men do better with the band. Anyone have any input or advice?

jrsyshoregrl - I have debated several times on what would be best for me. I know several people who have had bypass and only one who has had lapband. I feel that for me lapband will be more of a long term fix. I am afraid of getting bypass and in a few years stretching my stomach back to what it was before. I love the fact that lapband can be controlled by fills and unfills. If I decided to have another baby then I can get unfilled and still have that tool to help me shead those post pregnancy pounds. I believe it is a personal choice and everyone has to make the decision on what is best for them.

Hi all! I'm new to the November group. Originally I thought that my surgery would be in December, but I'm set for November 5th!

I am so excited! I really wish I could just have it done tomorrow and be on with it. I'm scared about living on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery but I'll survive.

Originally, I obsessed about all of the things that I would be giving up forever such as carbonated pop, bread, Pasta, etc etc...

....and then I thought to myself of all the things that I have been giving up in my life because I'm fat and would have to give up all of those things in my life forever if I stay fat.

For instance, I cannot go swimming with my son. I will never go swimming with my son while I'm fat. Do I want to give that up forever?

I cannot wear cute clothes. I would have to give up cute clothes forever.

So although I will have to give up certain foods/drinks forever, it's in exchange for getting back other things that I thought I had given up forever. It makes it easier to give up those things.

So, what did you give up in your life by being fat that you'll be able to get back once you lose your weight? :)

So, what did you give up in your life by being fat that you'll be able to get back once you lose your weight? :)

I've given up on feeling comfortable when I setp out of my house. No matter where I go or who I am with I always feel fat and out of place. In my mind everyone is looking at me and calling me the "fat girl". I can't wait until I can walk out my front door with my head held high. I avoid public places as much a possbile and prefer to sit at home. This of course, is not ok because I have a 2 year old. I think of all the things that she is missing out on because of me. I feel that she is being punished because of that. My husband and I have been planning a trip to Disney World next October and I really wasn't looking forward to it but now that I am to be banded on November 1st I am ready for a GREAT time at DW! I should be feeling really good about myself by then and have a lot more energy for all the walking we will be doing.

Got my post-op instructions and they said each (tiny) bite is to be chewed 5 to 10 minutes. How is that possible???? Has anyone got the same message from your doctor? ;)

Nessa - Congrats to you too! Did you notice we have the same BMI and weight loss to go? You'll probably lose faster than me because you are younger than I but I will give it a try. :woot:

Jrsy - I COMPLETELY understand what you are going through. I have had the same thought over and over again. I originally signed up at my hospital for the Bypass but whrn found out they started doing the Band I changed my mind. I started to do a ton of research on the Band and even though I know that it is the better choice for me as far as the pros and cons that I have weighed out. I still feel the fear of "what if I fail" To this day I have to tell myself that this is not another FAD diet that I am going to Fail at. Remember that you have a ton of support and as long as you weigh out ALL o the pros and cons you will make the right decision. We are there for you no matter what and if you need someone to help you through this let me know I am here anytime.

I know what you mean. That is one thing I am looking forward to as well. I have a young teen daughter and I would love to go shopping with her and stuff without feeling like everyone is staring at me. I am also looking forward to the increased energy. Hang in there your surgery is just around the corner!!!

I just got approved! My surgery date is November 1st with Dr. Brad Ray in Bloomington, IN. I having been going thru the insurance approval for 1 year (2 different insurance companies). I am so excited that I am approved...I can't wait to get started. I still have to have the visit with the nutritionist and I already had the psych checkup. Only thing after the nutritionist is the pre-op appointments!! Yippeee....

Pattypoo - Nov 1 seems to be a good date! How long do you have to do the Optifast?

Nessa - I know what you mean about holding your head high afterwards. I have a job where I travel every week and I dread seeing the looks of the passengers who realized they are sitting next to a fat person on the plane. I can't wait to be skinny...I promise you that I will never ignore the overweight person in the seat next to me! Life will be sooo good afterwards!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
