At this point I would try to find myself a support group or a professional you can talk to. most of this game is changing the way we think, not just how we eat.

I'm 8days post op now. No one ever told me the regret I'd feel. All I wanna to do is eat. food was my comfort and now I don't know how to comfort myself! Advice??

I'd recommend you to write a love letter for yourself.

Be honest and write everything that you remember why you did it.

Why you doing this.

- Mine included the fact of being so embarrassing asking in the restaurant for a table instead of a booth ...

- My back pain, etc, Etc.

so, I hope that helps and try to keep you mind busy. Go out and walk! Make it confortable to your journey.

I'm still pre-op and I am well aware of what I am doing. What kind of program did you go through? They didn't discuss what changes you would need to make? These are things I am trying to change now before surgery. I am expecting to feel miserable right after as well since it's a shock to the system, but once I embrace my choice and know this is a lifetime commitment, I am sure I will wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Best of luck to you and hopefully this will pass. I suggest seeking a therapist to help you get to the bottom of your food issues.

Whether that be making sure I have the best support team or getting counseling. I am aware that all the preparation in the world may still not help me once I am actually where you are today. But do know there are great people on here who have been there and can give out wonderful advice.

I would echo some of the others and also suggest speaking to a professional. The biggest part of this journey, to me, is re-establishing your relationship with food. I used my six-month insurance-required pre-op diet to do that, and I am so glad that I did. Aside from the huge pre-op weight loss that I had, that diet program gave me the time to get my mind in the right place, and that has made all the difference in this post-op transition. (I say this more for the benefit of those reading who are pre-op. In your case, what's done is done and talking to a professional will be your best bet to playing catch up.)

Read, exercise and visit friends. Because if u eat wrong stuff, u will be so sick. I ate a little lasanga a week out of hospital. I hurt so bad I will never eat lasanga again. Don't eat wrong stuff. The pain and throwing up is not worth it.

I think what you are feeling is very common. If food has been your primary means of coping with stress then since you cannot use food to cope you may feel very uncomfortable.

Talking with a counselor or therapist is a great strategy. Attending support group meetings and participating on BariatricPal can also be helpful.

Also, you may want to consider Overeaters Anonymous. You can find meeting lists and other resources (like podcasts) online at OA.org.

In the meantime, see if you can find other things to do when you want to eat: take a walk, journal, color, call a friend, etc.

Focus on getting in your Protein and Fluid. Early out, I spent so much time sipping I really never has time to get hungry.

It will get better.

I feel your pain. The early days right after surgery, I fought thoughts of what the hell did I just do. Water didn't sit well, couldn't drink any shakes, and had an unrelated infection. It got better.

I haven't really wanted to eat yet. I just know my sugar dropping so I need a few bites to keep me going.

I'm only 4 weeks out. I am 30 lbs down in that time which spurs me on. I felt better around the end of week 2.

See if you can find a local support group that can help.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
