Wow, people this forum had me in tears after reading all the posts. I am new here and i can understand that you guys are frustrated with people getting the surgery and still asking about bad foods. I seen a post yesterday where someone educated another on it, and i thought to my self this is where i need to be. I was so grateful that i came across this site it was just what i was looking for. Somewhere i could ask all my questions and not be judged for being super morbidly obese. As i explained in one of my first post i am not that savvy when it comes to social media had not been able to figure out what is what heck just a few min. before reading this forum i found the the rules of posting, but i was not going to let that stop me since i had finally found some people to help me. I come from a small small town i have to travel to see my surgeon and anyone else that is going through the same thing i will be going through. I am very shy and have so much trouble making friends due to the weight and because i have no room for face book in life it is like i have nothing to offer. i'm sure some of you old timers can remember what that was like or can you? It seems to me that some of you have forgotten what it was like to be the newbie. Good for those that did the research before asking questions i did that research too but i thought by asking questions it would open up some type of conversation but yall are to tired for that. I seen earlier a post from someone who quit because they felt they were being attacked now i can see why they felt that way i asked one of the no no questions and got some burn back from someone. I was still okay with it brushed it off. However now i see that some of those that answered me are on this same forum one thank you for taking the time out of your wonderful to busy lives to deal with newbies to grace me with an answer. Sorry i bothered yall. I pray never to be at the same level as yall, and god grant me the patience to help those that need me. I hope you guys continue to lose and be happy. As for me ill keep my log in only for the store but ill seek advice somewhere else.

Hi all,

I feel like the vets are frustrated but maybe need to go back to the days pre surgery and post surgery, some of us are ultra prepared and others seemingly go in blind which seems crazy tome but i am not them so i will not judge harshly. Ill just say gee i would not have done that.

Maybe if the vets are all getting so pissy about the repeat posts they should just stop reading them all and maybe take a break from them as i do not think whining and berating people will stop them from being "unprepared, not thoughtful in their questions, ill prepared" ect.

i feel like this is a journey for ALL of us and this is a place to talk freely and ask questions (as stupid as theymay seem to others) this place is a virtual meeting house for a diverse group of humans that will come from all walks of life and all IQ levels.

These are my thoughts as i enter day 5 post op and as i sit here thankful for the help vets and newbies have offered me on this forum. I hope you all have a wonderful stress free day <3

Nin :)

This is rants and raves!!

I'm one of those people who doesn't speak english as my first language, it's my third. I can still easily spot sarcasm and humor, it's a welcomed break in my weight loss journey. I find the banter funny. What I don't find funny is to read selfdestructive posts that are looking for cheerleaders.

What if someone new to this forum thinks it's actually ok to eat whatever junk OP is talking about and destroys their staples/suture line? And has to have a feeding tube for the rest of their lives? I don't want that to happen because the destructive behavior wasn't corrected by a simple post.

I came here for support. If I do something that's bad for my health or weight loss success and I post about, I want to be corrected. I did a lot of research, but I'm sure there is still plenty that I don't know, since I'm still pre-op. I need the vets to answer my tricky questions, not validate any poor choices I might make along the way. They have proven that what they did, actally worked.

I also don't appreciate comments that the vets should leave. This forum is for everyone and the vets are just as entitled to support as any of us.

The mental struggle doesn't end at the date of the surgery, since the scars can be visible on our stomachs, not between our ears.

I thank you all for your continued support!

Nilla

I think that it might not be obvious to people reading this thread that it's in the "Rants and Raves" section. I know sometimes on my phone I don't see what section the thread is from.

Exactly!

I'm accessing the app on iPhone. When you tap timeline, everything is mixed. Your getting all the Categories as people are posting to them. Maybe it should allow an option to select a section and see its timeline.

Now, @@LipstickLady How soon after surgery CAN I GET THOSE 10 TACOS AND 3 BEERS?

of course I am kidding. I'd be scared I would explode.

Yes, I accidentally joined a thread in the fella's room Very embarrassing. Slowly slinked out backwards hoping no one noticed! Super careful now. I also noticed pre op and recently post op folk posting to a recent thread clearly labelled vets one year plus only.

I didn't dare even like anything in there at four months three weeks out!

No beer, no tacos but I am eating a small banana for my lunch!

Awww...I am so sorry. If words from strangers on an internet forum "have you in tears", the world wide web probably isn't the right place for you.

No one here is judging ANYONE for being obese (except maybe swedish fish girl). My biggest take-away from your post above is how low your self esteem is. You won't go on Facebook because you feel that you have nothing to offer? Heart-breaking! OF COURSE YOU DO!!! But you can't find your self worth on an internet forum full of strangers.

Have you sought counseling? Your body is going to go through so many hormonal changes after WLS. What you feel now is going to be magnified a thousand times and the ups and downs you are going to experience are dizzying.

Find someone to talk to if you haven't already. I think it would be very beneficial.

So, just an FYI. The above ^ is not one bit nicer than anything you complained about in your long post. You'll get out of this forum what you put into it, and that's pretty much true for any forum anywhere online. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey.

You know it is not just this forum it is life itself people are like this everywhere not just weigh lost healthcare anything people don't want to take responsibility for there own life and heath it is much easier to ask somebody else it is not because people don't wont to help it because you don't read research talk to your Dr. your care team you can come to this forum and ask all the question you want these people can only tell you what they experienced.!! they cant tell you about you that is what your Dr. and care team is for these people are not you healthcare team hell they may not be healthcare professionals so you can only take it with a grain of salt. this is a forum for people to talk vent bounce off ideals to each other to get support when you are feeling down or alone people that know what you are going through. and it you do get someone that you feel is a little rough for your taste don't talk to the or respond move on to another thread don't let people take away your support there are good people here and bad not just here all over the world deal with it or not but you cant hide and don't let them make you hide!!! this is a good forum and you have the right to use it too! if you don't come back it is your lost you need to get a thick skin!! That all!!

I start preop diet tomorrow and I wanted to answer that question with, "Why yes you can if you want to take a chance with dying". So I understand how the vets feel but boy do I NEED them to stick around.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
