No longer answering these questions:

Recommended Posts

  • Why did you choose sleeve vs RNY?
  • What Protein Shakes do you like?
  • What is a good Vitamin to take?
  • What are your favorite purees?
  • Help, I'm three weeks post-op and I've stopped losing weight!
  • What should I take to the hospital?
  • When can I go back to work?
  • How can I prevent loose skin?
  • If I take 50 million mcg of Biotin every day and get all my Protein in, can I prevent Hair loss?
  • When can I eat pizza/popcorn/birthday cake? When can I drink alcohol? When can I drink coffee and isn't it true that drinking coffee will leave you a dry, withered husk of a person with all your vital fluids sapped out of your body?

Don't get me wrong -- I am not mad at anyone for asking these questions (though truth be told I wonder why people don't try a little harder sometimes to read up on things in advance and figure out they've all been asked many, many, many times before). It's more that I have been here a long time and don't feel like I have anything new or enlightening to add, and it's time for the newbies to get some practice answering the most frequently answered questions. Good luck y'all! I will stick around but will be trying to dial back my talkativeness.

Totally understood! I have been on here for 7 months, not as long as you have, and I am over the repetition myself.

There are Frequent Questions in both Pre-op and Post-op, plus the Search button.

I guess some newbies don't know about these features, and haven't learnt how to navigate this huge forum yet.

I wish these topics were pinned at the top of each forum.

The 3 week stall really bugs the heck out of me. SEARCH!

The only poop question I had was after searching and didnt find nobody else talking about it. It was because I start gagging and trying to vomit when going. Doesn't happen often, maybe once every 2 weeks now. After nobody here had that, I googled it and other people had the same problem on another forum.

I know, right? I didn't post anything on this board for a long time after I joined because just about every question I had was answered by doing a search of the boards.

I haven't been here anywhere near as long as you, and I've started skipping those posts as well.

I find myself typing responses and then deleting what I've typed. I agree with you, Bufflehead. I don't think like I have anything to add at this point, and these questions have been asked and answered to death. I'm going to go a step further (and this is just me). Reading posts here lately pushes me over the edge. I think for my own sanity, I'm going to have to take a step back. I am upset at myself for this since I feel I actually have some information to contribute, given that I lived with VSG for 2 years and then had to revise to RNY to treat my severe GERD. Unlike you, Bufflehead, I am a bit annoyed at the fact that some who post haven't read the past posts on the site or done any research about the surgery. Anyway, I'll keep my feelings about some of the questions to myself.

Would it be mean to just tell them to use the search feature? Especially when they just get the surgery and ask basic questions and you know darn well they are going to next post about the 3 week stall etc?

I read and comment on frequent-flyer forum (Flyertalk) since I travel so much for work. On there (at least on the Delta forum), people are direct verging on rude telling people to use the search feature when they ask routine questions or start threads with topics that have been discussed and discussed and discussed. While I do find the way some people act on there off-putting sometimes, you don't see nearly as many of the same old thread topics on there like you do on here.

I have only been around here for a short time, but even in that time, I have developed similar feelings to those that have been expressed in this thread. For me, it isn't as much the posting about things that you could find through a simple search, it is more about the sheer unprepared nature of SO many people who have had (or will be having) this surgery. I get that I am a bit of a "bariatric goody-two-shoes." I am going to do exactly what my doctor and his staff have told me to because I am going to be successful and healthy and no food or drink is worth more to me than that. I also get that everyone doesn't have that much drive in them, and I also get that food addiction is real, scary, and daunting. But come on, all of these posts about "when I can have XYZ?" or talking about "cheating" on pre-op diets or post-op diets signals really quick that A LOT of people on this forum are ill-prepared to embrace this life change or never really intended to change in the first place. And they will be the very people later on who say this doesn't work.

Yes, people need a place to vent, and yes, people need to be treated with compassion, but they also need a kick in the ass sometimes and a serious reality check. Thankfully, we have some bad-ass vets like LipstickLady and Bufflehead (among others) who always keep it real.

True, but I feel bad at times that LSL gets bashed alot by saying what at least I'm thinking. And most of the time she isnt a quarter as bad as I would be. Lol

When I started this process I wanted to know everything that I could to prepare and decide if this was for me. I could never imagine doing this life altering surgery without research.

When I started I didnt even know what questions to have, thats why I stalked this forum. Started reading threads in the gastric forum from 2 years ago and just mentally compiling.

I guess that is also why I get a bug up my butt when I see the same threads.

Death, taxes and Bozo alerts.

Not all of the repetitious, annoying and futile questions always seemed so. Among my faves are those on "What [product] is your favorite?" Who cares? If I like one, does it mean that someone else will?

To the newer people: Understand that anything becomes tedious. You think your questions are brand new. There is no such thing. You don't even have to dig deep into the website to find the hundreds of others. Simply look screen-right at the lists of recent and current topics. Eight times out of 10 yours will be right there.

I've always been a fan of www.lmgtfy.com for people like this, though obviously a different strategy is required for this specific forum.

"When all is said and done, usually more has been said than done. "

@@Bufflehead,

There's another sin perpetrated thrice daily that I no longer pay attention to: The questions that are non-questions.

After many months of training, I've finally conquered the impulse to click into an item in the Recent Topics list if the title communicates nothing. Starting with "A question" or "Help me" is the best way to have me skip away. I no longer take time to go in only to find a post to which I can contribute nothing or prefer not to take part. If people want to be taken seriously, they owe the courtesy to state up front what they seek.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
