Surgery this Morning -- Lost 99 pounds Pre-Op

Recommended Posts

Well, the day has arrived. I have to be at the hospital at 10:30, so we will head out that way in an hour or so. I didn't make it to 100 pounds down, but I have lost 99 pounds in my six-month pre-op diet journey. I am pleased with that. My body just doesn't want to give me that last pound. The last 3 days with liquids weren't that bad at all, but I am convinced that re-establishing my relationship with food over the past six months made that experience (which sucks under any situation) so much better than just going into it straight from an "anything goes" diet. (And 14 days of having to do that would be so difficult even with the preparation.)

I am certainly filled with anxiety at the moment. I'm ready to get this done and move forward with the second half of my weight loss journey. I've never had any sort of surgery in my life, so I doubt I will shake these jitters, but it is time to be a big boy and just deal.

I wish all the best to those out there who are also having surgery today. "See" you on the other side of it!

Best of luck and best wishes to you! You have done extremely well losing so much weight pre-op!

The jitters and anxieties are normal in this situation.

I hope you will be given a nice pre-med to make you relaxed.

I had quite a few surgeries in the past, and the sleeve was the only one where I was anxious and scared for a week pre-op.

Then it happened, and all was Ok.

See you on the other side :)

You have done extremely well pre-op! And all that work pre-op is really going to pay off and make your recovery much easier. Good luck with surgery and let us know how it went as soon as you are up to it.

It's over. What a day. We arrived at the hospital at 10:30 as asked, but it was almost 1:30 before I went back with the nurse and it was after 3:00 before they operated. The surgeon just didn't show up when he was supposed to and everything was super backed up. I was irate to say the least. In my business, we wouldn't treat customers that way, and if we did, there would be hell to pay.

All-in-all, it has been much easier than I thought it would be. The worst part was sitting on the table waiting on the anesthesia to kick in. I just remember the nurses talking to each other, and then I woke up in the recovery room. I have been drinking Water, broth and having Jello since then. I haven't had any issues. I have been on four pretty sizable walks around the ward. Everyone is impressed with my progress so far. I have a little bit of gas pain, but it isn't terrible.

We'll see how tomorrow goes. I just sent my partner and my parents back to our house to sleep. I just didn't want them to have to sleep here, and, hopefully, I'll be out soon myself.

That's it for now. I'll check in tomorrow.

Great job with the pre op diet that's amazing. I'm keen to follow you journey as I'm booked in for 2 December and would love to hear how your recovery goes over the next few days. Good luck and good health.

So far, so good. I am really sore and I am learning just how much Fluid I can sip at a time. I still have some gas pain, but that is getting better, too. And THANK GOD for the painkillers. I am almost to 32 oz of Fluid today (which is what the surgeon wants). Beginning tomorrow, I can mix unflavored Protein powder with my Clear liquids (with a 40 oz goal), and next Thursday, I can start having Protein shakes (with a 30 gram Protein goal).

I am not hungry AT ALL. Yesterday, I had 1/4 cup of broth and 1/4 of a Jello cup. I've been working on that same Jello cup all day, and I am still not done with it yet!

My first follow-up with the surgeon's staff is next Tuesday morning. I'm not going to weigh until then, so we'll see where I am at that point.

And I am SO glad my parents are here with my partner and me. That is making the whole situation a lot better. (On top of the fact that this hasn't been nearly as hard as I thought it would be...)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
