1 month post op.....MISERABLE!

Recommended Posts

I had a fairly easy recovery....until now. Something in my stomach is clawing me from the inside out. Every second of the day I have this horrible, gnawing pain in my stomach. I can't keep any food down and Water is becoming a chore. I've maybe had 8 oz of Water today and the food I have attempted to eat has just come back up. My head is pounding.

I know this is an ulcer. I had one a couple years ago - not nearly this bad. I called my surgeon's office first thing this morning and a nurse was going to call me right back, but never did.

Is there anything I can do tonight for relief? I'm trying to eat yogurt, thinking maybe it will coat my stomach a bit, but it's just coming right back up.

Don't suffer, I suggest going to Urgent or Prompt Care.

I called my surgeon's office first thing this morning. Apparently they tried to call numerous times yesterday, but couldn't get through. They had be come right in today.

I did a swallow test and she said she did not see a leak, but those tests can sometimes produce false negatives. She feels confident that it's an ulcer, based on my symptoms and the fact that I've had one before. She wants me to start over on the post op diet and go through it all again. So Clear liquids for the next 3 days, full liquids after that until Day 15, then soft food until Day 28. I'm fine with that. food hurts too much right now anyway. She also doubled my Omeprazol, put me on liquid Carafate, An anti-nauseous med, and one other thing that I can't remember at the moment.

Hopefully I'll get some relief and get back to normal.

Tomorrow I will start on full liquids. I'm already starting to feel a little bit better. I still have that gnawing hunger type pain in my stomach, but it's manageable...unlike a few days ago when I was doubled over in pain.

Sloooooow and steady for me.

So you still take your Prilosec?

I was told that I might not need mine afterwards, because most of the acid that comes from acid reflux would be cut out in the past of the stomach that was removed. So I haven't taken mine. I don't like taking pills at all. They hurt me.

I just got switched to double dose of Omeprazol. It seems to be working, along with the liquid Carafate.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
