So I'm on my pre op diet. I failed Tuesday with 4 ounces of baked chicken breast and 2 packets of sugar (low sugar). These artificial sweeteners are terrible. Between the chemical, overly sweet and nauseating taste inducing low sugars, I'm about frustrated and sick. I haven't had this artificial crappie in 5 years. The premier Protein shakes and Quest powders are tolerable. For the past 6 months I did well still using very limited amounts of added real sugar. It's just frustrating to have to eat that garage again. Yes I knew this ahead of time. I just forgot how crappie I feel while I'm using it. Even stevia turns my stomachache. Ugh.

The pre op diet is crazy making! I am also in such a brain fog, find it very difficult to get tasks done. I cry at the drop of a hat. All I can focus on is my vile ketosis breath. Fortunately only two more days of work, then I'm planning on a restful weekend and surgery first thing Monday. We got this!

You may want to look into the unflavored Protein powders (unjury is good). You can add that to anything liquid- like Water or broth, coffee, tea and not have to deal with sweetness.

And you don't "have" to eat the SF Jello or Popsicles. Perhaps make some for yourself? Add some unflavored Protein powder to Water, some type of extract you like, and freeze. Add some fresh lemon juice to it? Yummy! I prefer my drinks unsweetened as well, and frozen homemade lemon pops were so good and refreshing.

Heck! You could even make frozen coffee pops, frozen green tea pops- I could go on and on!

Artificial sweeteners are "ugh" if you are not accustomed to them. Gross aftertaste. I'm still months pre op and have been trying different Protein Shakes. Premier seems to be the most tolerable. I just got some nectar powder that will probably be gross too, but I'm keeping my eye on the prize. This time next year, I will not be on half the meds I'm on now and I will look and feel better. You will too. Good luck!

I like the Nectars, and the caribbean cooler is the least sweet. I use one scoop of that along with one scoop of unflavored for a whopping 43g of Protein. Goes down easily and I never miss my daily goal.

This one doesn't "foam up" as much as the others, too, which helps with gas and bloating.

Thanks. I'm just so cranky like I am sure everyone else is or will be. I know I will be healthier and this is just temporary.

@LisaMerg thank you for the suggestions. I completely forgot about unflavored protien. I am so tunnel vision on my print out, I am not thinking out of the box.

I know this phase is temporary but it's hard in the moment of discomfort to see that.

I really do appreciate the support. Monday Morning is the new beginning!

Thank you for posting this!! I'm on day 3 of my 3 week all liquid pre-op diet and also hate the taste of sweeteners; artificial or otherwise! I literally just guzzle the drink and chase it with some tea or Water.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm probably more struggling with the hunger in the afternoon. Need to spread out my shakes better to stay satisfied. I've only had 1 good day out of 3. Feeling a little bummed about that. But changes take time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
