Ohiohealth and Medical Mutual

Recommended Posts

Is/has anyone gone through Riverside Hospital in Columbus for their sleeve? I just met w/my PCP yesterday and he filled out my paperwork for financial aid- as an OhioHealth employee (where this surgery is being done) it's going to be $7200. Just did my urinalysis/blood work this morning and have my first group nutriton class Thursday. I will get scheduled with my visit with the surgeon on Thursday as well. What happens after this? According to my insurance, they really don't have a checklist for things to do.

Does anyone have Medical Mutual Supermed Plus? If so, how long did it take to get approved and a surgery date?

Went thru OSU just down the road. I also have Med Mutual Supermed Plus thru OPERS. I contacted them prior to contacting the doc, to see what exactly I needed to do. I was given a checklist. I met the BMI and co-morbities, to proceed. I was told that I would have to have 6 consecutive month visits with a physcian, whom would supervise a weight loss diet. The rest will depend on the program you are going thru. OSU required numerous tests, blood work, visits to a nutritionist, 4 weekly pre-op group meetings (you will actually learn a lot at these), sleep study, ect. On the plus side, I actually was approved prior to my last scheduled visit with the surgeon.

That's awesome! They did tell me at my meeting with the insurance specialist that we were only required 3 visits with the nutritionist. My insurance is MM Supermed-MedCentral Health System.

I'm so glad you had this done ????!

Nice, glad it was knocked down from 6 to 3. One less hoop for you to jump through. Now it will just be a matter of your programs requirements.

One of the other requirements I know I had from UHC was the psychiatric appt./approval

Yes, I'm pretty certain it is for Riverside. It really kind of surprised me that MM didn't have a checklist. A friend of mine who works in the OhioHealth system also had it done and I think it only took her 6 or 8 months total for her sleeve. Hoping mine is on the 6 month end lol. She looks amazing! I know 3 people who have had it done and are doing great!

How are you doing since you'very had it done?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
