I had a lot of people advise me NOT to have any food funerals. I did have 3 or 4 of my favorite meals spaced out over a few weeks prior to my 10 day pre op diet. The one thing I didn't eat, which was on my funeral list was popcorn. My husband makes the BEST popcorn and I didn't have any. Damn...I miss popcorn.

I think it's perfectly normal to want to say goodbye to a few things you know you won't see ever again (or at least for a very long time) I would think your okay, as long as you don't start shoveling it down for the sake of just eating it. Take time to enjoy it with friends and family. I personally Am going to have A couples night out and go to Benihana (loveeeee that rice) before liquid diet starts. I still have a long way to go I only just started the process so I'm three months away from anything. But a cookie here and there a taco, a piece of cake... I think you're OK if you have it now. I don't see anything wrong with it.

During the last week leading up to my pre-op diet I had a few of my favorite things and then went pretty crazy the day before (full breakfast, big fruit plate, pizza, salad and garlic bread for dinner). I was so sick from overeating on day 1 of the pre-op that it actually kind of helped! The thing I'd recommend is allowing a few things but not on the same day, and not for a long period of time - write down 4/5 meals/foods you really love and have reasonable portions. Stick to your protein and hydration goals the rest of the time. Oh, and by eating a bit more during that week I was able to get some good exercise in, too.

I'm confused. I thought it was important that you stick to the Pre-op 8 day detox prior to surgery to insure your liver was clean. Are we all speaking of the same Surgery? I'm a week out from having the Doenal Switch (9/19).

@@Gerri918 correct I had the sleeve, but yes same concept o shrink the liver. I was talking about my GRUBBING experience prior to that diet.

My doctor hasn't advised me to do any pre op detox or liquid diet. Just nothing after midnight the day before. Maybe you should call and find out

Now I'm on the pre-op diet (mine is 10 days) and haven't cheated (and won't cheat) - I was referring to the week prior to my pre-op diet starting.

@Mandablaz

I have RNY 9/26/16. Starting pre-op diet Monday too. Excited and nervous.

Girl I've been doing the same thing. I literally eat like I never will again. I know it's a bad mindsets because I will be able to eat these things again, just much smaller portions. But no I'm literally doing the same thing.
