Updated September Bandsters!

Hi All

I'm back from Tiajuana MX. I feel great. My pouch was not stretched. I felt like I could eat like I use to. Got the fill Thursday. Yes I can feel the restriction and most of my hunger pains are gone.

My doc (Dr. Gonzales) had me lay down on table and found the port right away. He inserted the needle (feels like a pin prick) and had me sit up with needle still in. He sent some fill solution into my band and had me gulp down some Water, went down easy. He kept repeating this until the water backed up my esophagus and a burp came out. Then he pulled out some Fluid and had me drink. The water went down. Next I sat in a room and slowly drank a bottle of water. I was to let them know if I had any problems, which I didn't.

Is this the same way any of you got your fills?

I didnt drink until after my dr took the needle out. I drank sips of Water then I ate a pb cracker and waited to see if it was okay and I left. I get fills every 6 weeks unless I dont need it then wait another 6 weeks.

How much Fluid did your doc put in for the first fill? My doc said 4cc's but I hear that is too much. Perhaps he put .4cc's?

It depends on what size band you have too NM Sunshine - if you have the VG band then you have a 10cc band and then there is the "average" band at it only holds 4ccs - each dr uses different ones!

Poohlvr,

I just realized that. I was reading the threads about fills and everyone had bands that only held 4ccs. Then I saw a thread that was about AP band. It was a band that held 10 to 14cc's. Checked my band box and it said Lap-Band AP small. From what I read on the AP thread, my band would hold 10cc's.

What does the VG stand for? Is it the vertical Gastric band????

Am soo glad i got on here today. It sounds like lots of you feel the same way I do. Hungry. Am going back to Dr. on 11/5 To discuss need for a fill. Hope he will just go ahead and do it that day. I don't need to discuss it, I know I need one. Am a little scared of it, and know that I will be going back to scratch on diet( liquids, soft, puree, etc.) Now I have no problems with anything going down. Hope that will change after fill. I do get full fast, but hungry often. Encouraging to know that i am not unusual in this. Thanks all for sharing.

Hi all you Sept.bandsters. I was Banded Sept.9 2007. Im down 20 lbs. The

only time I felt any restriction was the first few days after surgery. I followed

my drs. instructions of 2 Snacks a day. 3 1/2 cups serving of mostly Protein with a little veggie and fruit and try to get in 64 oz. of liquid. The

last 2 weeks have been tuff for me. Im hungry in between meals and hungry even after I finish eating. Im not feeling satisfied. Im do to see my dr.

Nov. 5th. Hope its fill time. Im working off of will power and starting to go

over my 1/2 cup portions.Im cheating. The whole point is to get healthy and

live longer, be able to exercise and enjoy life more. I have to not worry about the scale. I am learning that when I feel angry or frustrated I want to turn to the food. Well thanks everyone for writing. I love reading this thread.

My doc wouldnt tell me how much he put in the band. He just said "the appropriate amount and remember this is not about restriction but rather that you can eat smaller amounts and go 4-5 hours without feeling hungry. Some days I am starving ! Lots of will power is right ! But... I am doing it pretty good, just keep reminding myself not to overstretch the upper pouch and that scares me to eat less.

NM Sundshine - I am not sure what the VG stands for...sorry I am not that educated with it. I was just trying to point out that there are several different types with different fill levels. Sorry I couldn't answer you question!

I was banded on the 20th of September. I get my first fill 11/6. I am so hungry I am afrain I have been overeating. I sure hope I have not ruined my band. I don't have trouble eating at all . What can I expect after the first fill?

Holly

That first banding can cover the whole restriction range; from feeling no restriction to feeling very tight. Mine is no or very little restriction. Some say it takes until the 3rd fill for the restriction to really take.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
