Hi! I am awaiting approval for GB and wondering about Constipation (I know, ew, sorry). I already have pretty severe constipation, what works after surgery? Might it get worse?

thanks!

Constipation can be a problem after surgery. It can happen if you are not getting in enough daily fluids. If it gets really bad, you will need to unbind yourself. I used a glycerin capsule that I put up my rear end. They work very good but generally you need to attack the problem before you get too bound up. These are some of the suggestions from prior posts for dealing with constipation.

Apples with the skin

Smooth Move Herbal Tea
Prune juice (warmed)
Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night)
Magnesium citrate
Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber).
Haribo sugar free Gummy Bears (be careful with this one because it can lead to diarrhea)
Aerobic Magnesium 07
Ground Flax Seeds (but don’t try to grind it yourself). Use 2 tablespoons per glass of Water every night before going to bed.
Low Fat Bran Muffin (recipe). 80 calories each
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups bran Cereal
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
½ tablespoon applesauce
optional: banana, berries, mini chocolate chips
Bake 400° F for 22 minutes

I eat a handful of popcorn. Like the skinny pop brand.

I've been living with this problem (along with BAD nausea) since my surgery 5 weeks ago. For Constipation, I am taking Senna, Colace, Miralax, and Benefiber. I also puree up a banana and throw it into my Protein ice cream. The Smooth Move tea is good too.

Good luck!!

I had issues with Constipation for maybe the first three months. I take a stool softener 2 or 3 time a week (I include it with my vitamins), and I haven't had any problems since.

My surgeon said that you can safely take Miralax daily before and after surgery. It is very gentle. Taking a daily stool softener also helps after surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
