Stressful 3-4 months - BCBS Federal

Sorry this is so long. :-( I'm just starting my journey but wanted to just get this out. My BMI was 40.3 at my initial consultation. I want this, but I'm stressing about the thought of my BMI dropping below 40 and being denied by my insurance. I have to have a 40 BMI, do 3 months weight management, a nutritionist visit, 2 year weight history and. Psychologist appointment for my insurance qualifications. So the earliest my case will be submitted to insurance is October. I have health issues but none that qualify according to their list of co-morbidities. One member of the staff at the surgeons office said don't gain anything or you may have an issue with your insurance. Another member of the staff said my insurance won't cancel for a little weight gain. So I'm stressing and have a few months to continue stressing! Anyone been through a similar situation.

@@Hopeful2016 how did your appointment go today?

I gained some weight but have two more visits to get it off. I'm kind of a stress eater so I figured it would be up a little. I meet with the surgeon on the 15th. How are you doing?

I have faith that you will do well on your next weigh in. Relax and it will all be well.
That's pretty exciting that you have an appointment on the 15th!

I'm doing good. I gained about 1.5 pounds even at the end, but the weigh me at the end of the day. I've been retaining Water like crazy plus it's been 115 here (Las Vegas). Still playing the waiting game. It will be a week as of Wednesday since my packet was submitted and I'm a terribly impatient person. I've been tempted to call and make sure BCBS got the paperwork but I'm trying to behave :)

Thank you! I know and I'm excited to meet with him. One step closer. :-) I too am impatient, so my recommendation is to call! Can't hurt just to make sure they received the package, right? Plus who knows you could already be approved and just not been notified yet. :-) The maintaining weight struggle is real especially with heat like that!!!

Update: I was approved yesterday! 8 calendar days total from submission to approval. I am currently set for a surgery date of 8/30.

@@vamping how did you receive the approval? Was it on your fepblue.org site or they called?

Thanks @hopeful2016. I am very excited.

@@nickisleeve I had sent a secure message via the portal asking if they had received my paperwork on Tuesday.
I didn't check my messages again until this morning when I got a an email notification that I had a message. They sent me a message that I had been approved. The coordinator from my doctor's office called about 10 minutes later.

I am new here, have BCBS Federal and I was denied the first time. I was told that they didn't allow Peer to Peer appeals anymore. Has anybody else been told this?

I haven't heard that but mine hasn't been submitted yet. If you don't mind me asking, why were you denied?

The nurse didn't send all of my documents stating the diagnosis of morbid obesity and she didn't send my psych evaluation and my 3 months worth of supervised diet

Honestly I'm not sure what she sent! So I'm changing surgeons to one that has separate insurance coordinators.

Update: Saw my new doc this week and I have to do the 3 mo SWL again.... and get proof of my BMI for 2 years. Here's my problem, 2014 I have proof, 2016 I have proof, 2015 the highest I can find a record of is 34, only because I began another diet! Has anyone else had this situation? If so, are there any tips to getting this through insurance? I have BCBS Federal

Was your ht the same? The only way I know it would be higher is if u happened to get shorter. Or since u have to do the 3 months SWL then you would use 2016 and 2017.....

Sorry I'm not much help.
