Post-op purée suggestions...

Recommended Posts

During the post-op purée phase, what the heck did you eat? I've seen people mention baby food which the thought of makes me [emoji13] I would love a list of purée options that I can make and freeze ahead of time.

--Eggface Ricotta Bake (Google for recipe)

--refried Beans with a little cheese melted on top

--poached or scrambled egg (if permitted on your plan)

I made little mini-casseroles, but without the carby junk in them. Basically, take meat & a flavorful sauce & puree. Put in a tiny ramekin, add a little shredded cheese if you want, and heat in the microwave. Some of the combos I tried and liked:

--chicken breast with marinara sauce & mozzarella cheese

--ground bison with low carb BBQ Sauce & cheddar cheese

--salmon with lemon dill sauce

--turkey with peanut satay sauce and jack cheese

--ranch flavor tuna with nonfat ranch dressing & swiss cheese

You get the idea. I used a lot of the little packets of tuna, chicken, and turkey and small cans of meat.

My favorite was refried Beans with a little taco seasoning and some rotel cheese dip. I ate that the whole time.

You could also try canned tuna / salmon / or chicken with some light mayo. I'm looking forward to giving that a try today.

boil some cauliflower in some salty Water until it is tender. Then puree it with a wedge of laughing cow cheese

a baked sweet potato is also yummy.

ricotta cheese with some Tomato sauce and some mozzarella heated up until the cheese is melty

mash up an avocado with a hard boiled egg and a pinch of salt

Strained or blended Soups, cheeses, refried Beans (taco bell pintos and cheese was a NUT approved staple), guacamole, hummus, yogurt, ricotta cheese (part skim) with Tomato sauce. I also ate avocado with hard boiled eggs and occasionally mashed potatoes or mushed sweet potatoes. It took me a bit to tolerate tuna fish and scrambled eggs. They were too textured for me.

I had and still do have sometimes Soups, scrambled eggs, cheeses, tuna salads (avo, tuna, mayo, onions), corned beef, canned chicken meat (gross by the way), hummus, shiro wot (spicy Ethiopian dish made from ground chickpeas), foie gras..

chicken broth puréed with sautéed yellow squash was divine. Yum yum. If you don't care for yellow squash then go for the soft veggie of your choice cooked well. I would stay away from broccoli or asparagus (even if puréed for the first few weeks).

And yes baby food is disgusting.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
