My journey has begun!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! A friend of mine reached out to me 2 years ago about considering wls and I thought "no way! It's too drastic" well here I am 2 years later the exact same size after trying & trying & trying. After giving it thorough consideration I'm finally going through with it and I'm so excited! If it wasn't for her bringing it up I would have never thought it was an option.

I'm a 32 yo female, 5'5", 231# & 38BMI. The kicker is I've been an avid crossfitter for 4 years and coaching regularly for 3! I also aim for a Paleo lifestyle because it makes me feel amazing but I get discouraged when my weight doesn't budge. I'm sharing because like most of us the reaction I've gotten from my friends about wanting to get wls has been negative. If anything I feel like my story is proof that we can't control our hunger, that our stomaches are stretched and damaged and we just can't help it. I've tried it all since I've been a teenager, lost some weight and the moment I stop tracking (obsessing) over everything I eat the weight starts creeping back on. The only time in my life I can remember managing my weight was when I smoked.

So far in this process I've had my first consultation and getting all my blood work, sleep study, psych eval and nutrition appt in next 2 weeks. I have Tricare so I need 2 months of weigh ins and then off to insurance it goes. This may sound awful but with my current BMI I have to have 1 comorbidity to get approved and I'm hoping one of those tests comes back with something. I'm 10lbs from 40BMI and I can't gain anymore weight!

I'm really looking forward to being able to trust my body! I'll be posting updates of my process!post-295223-14670745723967_thumb.jpg

Hi! We have very similar stats. Im 5'5 and 236, except I'm 10 years old - 42. I'll have the surgery some time in August of everything goes right. I wish that I had made this decision ten years ago at your age. It only gets harder and harder to lose weight. When I turned 40 I almost over night gained 20 pounds and it doesn't seemed to matter what I do, the scale doesn't budge. Good for you for going forward. Sooner is better than later.

I also did Crossfit! I was pretty damn good at it, too! Not too many 260 lb women can bust out box jumps and double-unders LOL but I LOVE lifting the most. I had to stop due to ankle issues and major neck/upper back nerve pain (I know it's weight related). I cannot wait to get back into Crossfit after my surgery. My goal is to participate in a competition [emoji1320]

What do your Crossfit peers say about you getting WLS? I think my CF coach would kill me if he knew I was doing this [emoji15]

Hi. I'm also older (41) but have similar stats. I was pretty active and athletic up until the last year or so due to a back injury. Good luck with your journey. WLS was suggested to me a few years ago and I wish I would have expected started sooner. I am still waiting to meet insurance requirements.

They think I'm crazy but I don't care what they think. I know where they're coming from because I use to think the same about wls surgery but I do everything "right" and I'm STILL obese. It's not the easy way out, it's the only way for me. I'm so excited to find another crossfitter going thru this journey! If we can do what we do carrying this extra weight can you imagine how powerful we'll be after?!! I can't wait to look the way I feel!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
