Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

I'm supposed to be getting 90g of Protein a day but at 12 days out I'm struggling to get the Protein shakes down. I didn't mind them so much preop but now the flavor is gag inducing and everything else I've tried has been worse. After the first one I feel very full for the rest of the day. I'm only getting 25g a day. I know I need more. I get faint several times a day and my Dr. wants me to eat more to remedy that.

I'm a bit frustrated and hoping it will get easier. On the happy side, I have no problem getting my fluids in and I'm down 14 pounds since the surgery and 39 pounds overall.

I'm dabbling in puréed food a few days early. I tried a little bit of hummus, but no chips, and mashed up a hard boiled egg. So far so good. It's been Almost five weeks since I had food between the liquid pre-op and post-op. I just felt so very weak. I'm ready to chew!

I'm day 9 post-op and since the surgery I've been having severe mood swings. I'm angry most of the times and feel like fighting with everyone. Anyone else with this problem? ??

Yes I do. Do not want to be around anyone. People drive me crazy quick. I'm hoping this passes

Me too. I had a soft scrambled egg today and a spoonful of hummus. Both went down fine, although I realized my new stomach only holds 3/4 of one egg. Weird thing is I find it much easier to drink Water now that I've had "food". I've gotten a lot more Water in today. And the egg and hummus improved my mood considerably.

I was able to eat the entire egg, but I felt full after I ate it. I feel so much more satisfied. I have no regrets, but I will probably take it slow for now.

I completely understand. Also going through so many emotions and completely regretful. I'm so incredibly weak and tired. I have zero energy.

I'm also very emotional.

I had my surgery on he 27th and started my full liquid yesterday. How much Protein are you guys getting a day or how much were you around this point of my process?

I too was sleeved on the 27th, I'm getting in close to 60g of Protein via shakes and powder protein plus I am having skim milk and chicken broth. Included I am getting close to 60 oz of fluids in (sigh my Soup, Water to mix with protein etc) . I swear it's all I am doing but I am determined to get my recommended amount in . I'm having no issues with getting Iquitos down what so ever.......craving real food like no body's buisness...I miss chewing

Stop talking about eggs :) So jealous! I would never have guessed I would crave an egg so much!

I had to do Isopure Water and Protein broth for first week post op because after one day I couldn't tolerate the shakes. I just got back on a morning Protein shake but still can't think about drinking vanilla yet.

My 2 week check in is tomorrow. I too have nibble a few small things. So far luckily no problems. I am 65 G Protein and that is hard. I can't imagine how one would get in 100g right now!

My surgery was June 29th, I have not stepped on the scale yet. I'm feeling better but still having pain to left side of my abdomen. I'm able to tolerate cream Soups and some of the Protein shakes. I also found an unflavored Protein Powder by unjury that gives 21g of Protein per scoop and I add to my Soups and drinks like crystal light or my other Protein Drinks. This helps to boost my Protein intake. How long those the pain last?

I too take anti-depressants and have been struggling. At times I cry and other times I'm angry. It does get better a bit each day. I find if I go for a walk or keep busy it's better. I live near a lake and find the Water and fresh air comforting. I hope you feel better

Isopure unflavored is 25g per scoop good to know unjury is a favorite of some.

I had more pain in first few days, more discomfort that pain. Thankfully mood is only thing that I think is improved maybe because a bit tired at first. Now energy is good I agree with others moving is key. I have been doing some light cleaning/reorganizing that I have been putting off. I am not looking forward to return to office tomorrow though!

If its gas pain its going to come and go for a few weeks most likely but you are swollen from the surgery so that could last a few days. I hope you feel better soon. I was having pain too and took a little bit of tylenol liquid and I felt a lot better. Ask your doc ;)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
